so after using PP for 15+ yrs, I now will stop using them since they changed their policy.
If I want to log into my account,
I must give them my cell phone number to log in, so they can send me a security code and which they say authorizes them to text me anything they want.
my banks give me the option of either a text or email for a code, but PP will not do email.

So what are others using that is a similar service?
thanks

I respectfully disagree but its a free country

Citibank is always sending me codes on my phone as 2 step security
I like the instant security but as I said, you are free to use email

Maybe start using Proton or other open source encrypted email service for that??

don't u think its very arrogant of them to assume everybody has a cell phone?  not everybody does.  some who do still have old style that cannot receive a text.  ignorant of them and who are they to force people to get a cell phone and to use it like they want. arrogant that they want a cell # to identify a  person, is the first step national ID card, then computer chip under the skin? etc.etc.

Uh - I thought ALL cell phones in use today can do SMS (Text) messages  (even flip phones) ? Granted, they are easier to work with on a smartphone, but it is still possible to send and receive Text messages on just about all current phones.

Just about every company/financial office. I deal with wants to send me a security code text, plus the login/password.

Even my access to my medical site.

Some to allow email, but then I would have to open my email to get the security code.  Easier for this old man to open text.

I always use PayPal for protection services and just about excepted with most vendors. Recent purchase of a product that wasn't available anywhere except 2 place's. The 1st. one had the product cheaper than the store cost 2 yrs. ago with free shipping and would not accept PayPal. Hmmm. So I was able to order it from the manufacture @ 2x the cost but no issue using PP. A few days later the other vendor tracked into my email and tried to get me buy as they listed the cart page. I've never had this happen before w/o actually purchasing. I've been told by PP they will always notify me on my email if there's issue with my account. What irritating is everybody thinks you have a smart phone thus having a flip phone you get to jump hurdles for having one.

yes. my banks will do either email or text.
PP will only do text. the arrogance of these companies today assuming everybody has a cell or smart phone. the push for national ID and cashless society is here and pushing cell phones as one part of it.

Paypal will also use an authenticator app or security key for the two factor identification. Set up is under profile. And I believe you can turn off the two factor identification altogether, but that is not recommended.

PayPal has worked flawlessly for me but as with most things, it works well until it doesn’t.

I forgot to mention, in reading this thread, that a couple of days ago I used PayPal for an International purchase (new visor).

I have dealt with the "Visor Shop" before and it was good.  But one never knows.

I think there might have been a small surcharge but don't remember.

The only reason not to use PayPal in my opinion is the requirement to report sales to the government.

I buy a lot of stuff on eBay.  When checking out, PayPal "recognizes" my tablet, and does not require login.  It is a convenient feature, but could be risky if you lose your device or allow others access to it.

Ok,,, not being an expert on this kind of stuff and being reluctant to use PayPal in the future because they have to report purchases...... I had or elected to use them the other day.  I forgot the process from the web service in GB I was using but....

Today, I just went to the PayPal website to log in and this is the first screen I got.

I did not scan the link, nor did I enter my phone number to send a link.... I just did the Log In (top right of screen)

Next screen

Again I did not scan the "link" or click the "send me a link" thingy.  I just continued with the "continue on web".

The thing to do is to provide PayPal some feedback that if they keep trying to invade my phone with there app I will stop using their services and remove all contact.

I think PayPal has a place but, I am suspicious of the need to use by phone and what Biden is doing with the feds tracking or spending through them.

My brother in-law recently bought an overstock welder off of Market Place and used PayPal.  He never got the welder but the guy sent him a bogus USPS tracking number claiming he shipped it.  He took the tracking number to the post office and had them check it.  It was to someone else in his town and weighted 4.2 oz.  Yup, pretty small welder!

He filed a complaint with PayPal but so far their siding with the seller because he provided a tracking number.

All I can say is PayPal doesn't  know who their dealing with, my brother in-law is tenacious, he will not give up on something like this.  The more they deny him justice the more he will fight.  I suggested he contact the US post office as this seller used a USPS tracking number to scam him but not sure if they will really care.
