Weather... We've got us some! Guess I shouldn't gripe too much as the weather gurus on the televee are telling me we're still in a drought. But it's much too much precip for my liking. The monsoons came over a month early this season, and have hung around like a dank fart. Daily thunder storms are raining on my solo riding parade. To cope with my riding withdrawal boredom, I've been spending lots of "quality" time with the fat ladies ironing out some maintenance wrinkles and teaching them new cuss words. Just checked again. The rains continue through the latest extended forecast, somewhere far off in the distant future.. It'll shine when it shines, or so I've heard.

We need your rain. Hot wind followed me home from your side of the Mississippi. Not as much wind as out there, of course, but stuff is wilting... strong little pop-ups have teased me this week, but they just came near me, not on me...

send some to CA to fight the fires.
yah, send some to WI as well sick of watering the garden/plants every few days just to keep them alive and not producing much veggies. Might produce soon tons of blossoms, but will see? Mother nature is not ideal this year for sure.

I assume you heard about the recent rainfall near St Louis, MO......... Something like 10 inches of rain in a few hours.......
Well, I was near Columbus, IN on my trike and headed to my Mom's home near Wichita, KS that day. Now, I never start a journey in the rain but, I checked the forecast and by leaving early, I thought I could get through the forecasted area prior to it doing its thing. Had the forecast been correct, it would have all worked out fine. I left Columbus in my normal routine, I am an early riser so this should work out well. Or so I thought.
Made it to and through St Louis just fine. But, I could see that front approaching and those storm clouds building so, I picked up the pace a bit. Got just past the St Louis Metropoltian area when it started sprinkling on me. I was semi-close to needing a fuel and pee stop so I decided to go ahead and fuel up, take a short break and hydrate up. As I finished taking on fuel, it started to rain so, I went ahead and suited up in the rain gear. It wasn't a hard rain (at first) but, enough to get me drenched so the rain gear went on.
Within about 10 miles of fueiling up, hydrating and suiting up, the dam broke. It rained like a cow pissing on a flat rock. If I haven't mentioned it before, I hate riding in the rain. Regardless, it rained on me in differing volumes all the way to KC, KS.
My understanding is, St Louis got hammered and the MO Highway Patrol actually closed down I 70 (obviously after I got through that area) due to flooding. Just goes to show ya, the best laid plans only work out if everything cooperates and that rarely happens for me. As I tell my wife and anyone else that cares to listen, every trip is an adventure. Some are good, some aren't so good but, they are all an adventure. Happy Trails.

A couple of counties in KY got badly flooded overnight.
Be careful what you wish for.

Kentucky got drenched last night too. Some spots got 6 inches in a matter of hours and lots of flooding. East of me in the mountains about 22,000 out of power due to the storms associated with the rain. I’m on high enough ground that a Noah sized rain would have to fall before rising waters affected my homestead. But we really needed the rain.

Rainfall around here was ok through late June, but we could really use some now - I haven't had to mow for 3-4 weeks now.

Hey, send it our way. We had a really big high pressure sitting on us and we are really dry right now. Extreme fire danger. 100 plus temps (normally 90 is considered hot for us). Yeah, we need that rain.
Hot enough that rides are enjoyable.
BUT according to the weather folks, come Tuesday, we will be below normal temps for a while. Just got to last till then.

I hate to sound like a broken record but I wish some of these rains would help out the issue with Lake Mead, that thing looks like it’ll dry up in a year or 2.

I couldn’t agree more! I am in Woodland Park, CO and it has rained almost every afternoon since May 1. I understand we need it as it severely reduces the risk of fire, but dang! If I want to ride, I make it a point to be home before 3.
All that to say, should we have a dry day in the next couple months, you should ride over this way. Hwy 67 between here and Deckers is a fun ride. The burgers at Deckers Corner are pretty darn good too. The ice cream is even better!

Rain about normal here. Some, none and occasional shitloads from time to time.
Three months ago, I dug a trench at the bottom of the back yard (dry well like), and then a trench under my backyard fence with 6" downspout buried in it to drain torrential rains that flood my back yard. From yard, to trench, to drain, over sidewalk, to street. Hard digging in root-bound hard clay (with axe, hatchet, and pick, then shovel). Gravity and slope operated.
Wasn't sure how it would work, but the last torrential rain did not fill up the back yard like usual, and it almost all drained out my project system. About 4-5 inches of water in 18 inch deep trench is deeper than the drain, but it is a vast improvement over the standing water (and mudhole) I used to get up the yard (for days at a time). No more yachting and fishing back there.

It'll shine when it shines, or so I've heard.
lol...ya, good song you put me onto Seth We had a long drawn out end of Winter and wet Spring. It's common up here, then Summers and early Falls are usually nice. Had a late start to Summer this year though, but it's here now in a big way. I've adapted over the decades, in terms of riding. Enjoying where I live and wanting to ride for more than 6, 7 months out of the year, I've learned to like (OK "like" may be a bit strong, maybe tolerate is better) riding in the rain. As long as it's not a torrential downpour, I really don't mind it. Glass half full...regularly riding in the rain makes those bright Sunny mornings heading out on the road soooo much more exhilerating "Seems like everyone is out lookin' for the sun...singin' rain and pain on he who hesitates...but it'll shine when it shines...."

Exhilarating is a good word, but if ya get caught in these Colorado high altitude "summer" storms, you can get flash frozen lickety split. I've taken hour long steamy showers afterwards that didn't thaw the marrow in my bones! Just had another cold storm blow through. Sitting in the hacienda right now with a window open, and it's... chilly. My bikes may be calling me, but I'm not listening right now.

Just read about the KY flooding.
One of the tows hit was Whitesburg, KY.
I rode through there at the last Hillbilly Highways ride.
It was a nice area with some really good roads.

Not what you're asking I realize, but if you were to draw a line from Lexington, to Louisville, to Bardstown, you'd create a triangle where just about every distillery in Kentucky is located. Just sayin. -RP

The amazing difference that a bit of geography makes -- here in the Lonestar State, we can barely remember what rain is! Its been a brutal Summer of 100+ degrees for many weeks, and not a drop of rain for almost as long. Its been a battle just to keep the vegetation on my property alive.

We (central/eastern Ky) got hit again early this morning, though I didn’t even notice it. I75 got shut down for a while this morning at exit 90 due to high water. Another road I use to so to Richmond had been blocked also due to water runoff flowing across the street. When I went out around 11:00 this morning I could see all the spots where the water had left debris in its passing.
It must have been a really hard fast moving system to dump so much water and not have awakened me. I’m about 60 miles from the start of the worst flooding from last week so I hope it played out before getting to those folks again.

I had the luck of landing in St Louis this past Thursday just as the big red blob on the radar was over the airport A little bit bumpy.. yep..yet my wife slept thru it amazing. They do not let the gate extended to plane and let people off when lightning overhead, perhaps to protect the guys taking the luggage off the plane?? Been watering the lawn in early am and veggies doing fine. Getting about a dozen or so cherry tomatoes daily and lb of string beans. Had our first patty pan squash today also Picked about 100 garlic yesterday The heirloom tomatoes are large and some are starting to blush red

Wow!!! We actually have had nearly a third of inch of rain in the last 12 hours. Knocked most of the smoke out of the skies and helped to cool us off. After a week of 100 plus temps, it is nice to see that we are only going to warm up to upper 80's. Some did fall on the fires in Northern CA, so it did some good there also.

Still raining in eastern Ky. My grass is as thick as I have ever seen it in August. After working on my sons bathroom remodel yesterday day, I came home and had supper, then around 7:30 I decided I had better mow . Got done about 9:00 and was pleased as the temps had cooled and even sprinkled a little as I was putting things away. Got up this morning and it was pouring down. Rain off and on all day. Hoping this doesn’t spell more trouble for those in low lying areas.
