yah, but was sure nice to see Serena Williams spank in the 3rd set the #2 seed to move on even though no longer nationally ranked anymore at age 40.

cooldude Serena's last hurrah Cheesy She has been one remarkable tennis player over the years. I watch tennis and appreciate her ability and drive. I watched her last night play with her sister Venus in Women doubles. Unfortunately they were beat but a good match. The other team was a 37 and 17 year old player. I was impressed w/ the 17 year old young lady.  coolsmiley

True Story.....

35+ years ago I was on the #7 subway line in a train that was stopped on the elevated tracks before pulling into the Shea Stadium train station.  The US Open was fairly new to Flushing Meadows and only one small open stadium stood there surrounded by many other courts.  The train car I was in was packed.  Standing room only.  A child said to his mother that he could see the Tennis stadium and someone else asked if he could see the score.  Without missing a beat, someone from the other end of the car yelled out "Who gives a $hit, it's tennis!"  The whole car burst out laughing as we pulled into the station at Shea.

serena is on now again HECK of a matchup for sure.  She blew the 1st set up 5 to 4 and lost the last 3 games in a row loosing 1st set 7 to 5.  2nd set now she is up now 5 games to only 2 and looks like she will win 2nd set pretty sure on it.   Will be one HECK of a 3rd set for Serena if she pulls another rabbit outta her hat.

never count her out indeed.

I was one HECK of a tennis player as well in high school never lost a set EVER until I went to college and played against a division 3 tennis champion and he kicked my butt only winning 2 games is all in about 14 games, he was that good.  I was probably the best player in my entire town, but that is NOT saying much considering a population of 1000 and probably only 50 tops that played tennis.  LOL

Hard to beat a college champ with a 30 dollar racket when he had 3 YONEX rackets each worth a few hundred bucks each.   ONLY way I won a few games was he let me borrow his spare racket since my cheapo tennis racket could not handle the speed of the ball coming at me from him.

Wow, the young lady that Serena is play is a fighter. She is giving Serena a tough game. The 2nd game went to tie breaker after Serena had a commanding lead. So let's get this 3 set going and good  luck Serena I know your tired.  coolsmiley
A great story by the way of your tennis times.  cheers

bummer,  Serena ran outta steam in the 3rd set.  She had the lead by a few games both 1st sets and she shoulda won the 1st set IMO, but unfortunately did not win both right away, bummer for sure.

3 sets would tire me out as well, no idea how the guys, if needed, can go 5 sets.

Tennis is a funny game,  you can be up 2-4 games in a set and still loose the set somehow, I guess, but usually not.

I had a boring childhood, but use to play tennis by myself nearly every single day,  during summer, growing up whacking the tennis ball against the high school gymasium brick wall at my school which was across the street from parents house.  No one in my school really wanted to play against me since they got frustrated,  me usually only letting them win 1-2 games tops in a set so they would keep playing against me.  Yah, sheltered, boring childhood for sure.  I guess those summers my best friend was a brick wall - LOL
