Ok, next on the agenda with my old girl.

The frame cross piece that the kickstand mounts to has a rust problem. There's a quarter sized piece of steel missing from the bottom of the cross member, where the kickstand bolts up. I know Big BF had a repair for that piece when it got twisted or bent. I can't find it, Bill's site has been cleaned.

Does anyone have it saved somehow?

I really would rather not just replace the frame, I don't want to get into the titling issues with the DMV. At this point, I'd prefer to fix my frame and carry on.

I've found a couple of frames that have front end damage. I could get that whole member from one of those and replace it on mine...or does anyone here have a junk frame that could supply that piece?

Anyway, this is today's motorcycle earworm for me. This will make a good winter project.

I had the problem with mine several years ago. I also looked at big bf site but being out of work didnt have cash to fix. I fixed it myself and has been holding up well.
I went to home depot and bought 2 inch steel with 1/4 inch lip on each side. I cut the old bar off. You will be surprised how thin it is. On each side of the frame is a solid nub. I cut the steel long enough so it goes over top and another for bottom. The 1/4 inch sides are touching from the top and bottom piece. You will have to do some shaping on the ends for a good fit. If you have acess to welder you could weld the two pieces together. I used two u clamps and tightened them down and double nutted them over the nubs. When you drill two holes for kickstand bracket drill through both and nut and bolt it on. This will also hold assembly together. This also gave me a nice flat place to mount my stebel horn. You will have to experiment with location for bracket before drilling holes. I also painted black for protection.
Mine has been on for over three years and hasnt budged.I havent hit it on anything ethier as I have been more carefull over bumps. I also dont sit on my bike while on kickstand without weight on my feet only because I am big and fat and dont want to take any chances. E-mail me with questions if you want or I can get a picture for you. p.thomson124@att.net

Sorry to hear of your rust problem.  Eeeek.  It’s hard to type that. Maybe folks won’t laugh at me so much for cleaning and waxing down there regularly now. I would replace with a stronger crossmember. I would not go through all that trouble and use a used one off another Valkyrie frame.

Ok gents,

I'm not the best at responding in a timely fashion sometimes...my apologies.

I'm going to take the advice and fix my frame. This has been moved over to a winter project/D-check.

If you've seen my recent posts about the issues on my attempt to get to Valhalla in BC a few weeks ago, my clutch needs to be replaced, so what better time to just put er down and do it all. I'll be able to fix all those pesky little issues and see how close I can get her to look like some of your rides...

cleancleanclean.......paintpaintpaint....polishpolishpolish.....

That should keep me busy for awhile.

Thank you to those that responded.

Wish me luck, I'll return to this thread with pictures and good news. Promise... Wink Wink
