In a previous post a few months back, I was seeking help on a radio problem. Specifically, not being able to hear my backseater over intercom.  With some help from here and from J&M Radio, that problem was addressed.   On our first ride afterwards, the next issue arose.  WIND NOISE,,,
The mic was picking up wind noise so badly ALL the time, that I couldn't even hear the music on iPod or XM.  And attempting to communicate was not much better than when we couldn't hear each other at all.  One evening perusing this board, someone posted a link.  On that link was another product mentioned which caught my attention.   Mic- Mutes.   This little thing was origianlly made for the GoldWing, but has been expanded to fit also the Valkyrie IS, and J&M 2003DU radio among several others.  Hooked it up today (plug and play pretty much), and the constant wind noise problem is solved.  There's still going to be some on intercom and CB, but the ever-present noise while just listening to music is gone.  This gadget makes the mic a PTT (Push to Talk) rather than the mic being "hot' all the time. Depress the CB transmit button for a second, and the mic turns on, depress again to turn off the mic.  It's about $120 shipped.  My hearing will suffer less from the wind noise now, though the melodic tunes of Metallica might play havoc.    Not affiliated yadda, yadda,,, here's the link

Thanks for the write-up, GJ.  We used to struggle with wind noise coming in the always-on intercom passenger mic on the 'wing.  I wound up squelching it down and relying on a shoulder tap to open it up before exchanges.  I never got around to a PTT, but that was next.

Interesting Dave, I'm not sure I can squelch the passenger mic on the J&M radio.  Not that it matters now, but I might check it out just to see.  The only squelch function of which I'm aware is the one for the CB reception.  I've got a GW buddy that just quit turning his intercom on due to the wind noise problem.  I wonder if anyone has come up with another solution other than this one I used?   ???
