I'm a kidney stone producer.  Have had a symptomatic stone every 3 or 4 years for the last 33 years.  My stones were determined to be made from Calcium Oxalate.  We all know where calcium comes from and rather difficult to remove from one's diet, nor should you want to for good bone health.  So, I try to avoid oxalates.  The body doesn't make them, so any oxalates in the body were consumed.  I recently found a really good comprehensive list of foods containing oxalates.  Black Pepper was on that list.  We cook(ed) with A LOT of black pepper.  All protein was heavily salt and peppered.  Blueberries were also on the list along with chocolate, oatmeal, beets, pasta french fries,......

So, I try sticking to the list, however, we do eat out and order in, so I'm sur there's plenty of oxalates I'm still consuming.  To counter this, I need to drink A LOT.  I try to drink at least 3 liters every day.  This usually includes 2 giant cups of coffee (which is a diuretic so...) and then 2 or 3 800ml cups of water.  But I was having a lot of trouble drinking large amounts of water.  My wife recently suggested I try chicken broth.  We had the packets of No Sodium, 10 calorie chicken and beef bullion.  Two packets in 20 oz of hot water and I'm enjoying a warm flavorful low calorie clear liquid drink.  I do 3 or 4 of these a day EASILY.  Is has even replaced one of the big cups of coffee. And then I pee all night!!!

Just a tip for those who are in the same, or similar boat.

Good Health to ALL ! ! !

suggest u do more research, oxalates are not the problem although they can be in very high amounts and not enough fluids.

look into Vitamin K2 which forces the calcium in out diets into the cells, its the job it does. lack of it esp since it is mainly from certain animal sources, hard cheeses such as gouda and highest levels from Natto leads to calcium type stones the most common type.
there are certain food additives. foods and caffeine causes calcium to leave the body.  there are many avenues u can research for your body type/makeup and diet. increasing the Vit K2 levels is the greatest benefit.
I take a k2 supplement a few times a wk.
Not vitamin K1 which is different and has more to do with clotting of the blood.

Good luck and God Bless

I hope you fall asleep quickly after pissing several times a night !!!  I'd never get any sleep doing that regime.

I don't know if my stones were of the same makeup but 10-15 yrs. ago I'd get a stone every few months. One finally put me in the hospital for a week, required internal intervention...not a walk on the beach for sure. Had a stent in place for 3 months. After that my urologist put me on allopurinol, 100mg, twice a day. Haven't had a stone since.

Me neither.  My prostate is basketball size (BPH).  I've drunk lots of water and fluids all my life.  I still do, but make an effort not to hours before bedtime.  Getting up 2-3 times is OK, not 6-7 times.

I had one kidneys stone years ago.  One was enough.   tickedoff

What you take for calcium stones (70-80% of all stones), is magnesium.  It helps with calcium absorption, and is good for the heart and other things, and has no side effects of any kind.

Allopurinol is commonly used for gout treatment/prevention as well and as i understand it, purines turned uric acid is the problem. Kidneys cant handle an excess of purines and kidneys stones seem to get mentioned along side gout. I wonder if the OP has gout as well as they are related.  I know i do and that's why i'm sitting here now. Haven't been able to walk for the last 3 days  tickedoff.

I bought a "Soda Stream" to help me consume more than my usual water intake.

daily zinc citrate minimum 50 mgs daily and Stinging Nettle Root extract will shrink the prostate.  make sure its the root extract since there is Stinging Nettle leaf out there but it works mainly as a diuretic which aids kidney stones but not the prostate.
and yes magnesium is needed to absorb calcium. K2 is needed to force what is absorbed into the cells other wise it is not used fully.
then one can into the problems of inorganic calcium that is in many many things today. inorganic calcium is usually ground up chalk or some other rock. when one sees calcium carbonate on a package that is the chalk.  body can't absorb that at all has a hard time excreting it but just deposits what it can't in the joints arteries and kidneys.  organic calcium is only what the body should have.

all of this can be looked up and verified.

I guess I'm fortunate in that I almost never get up at night unless I drink too much just before bed or under the weather. I could probably put out a forest fire when I get up and you definitely don't want to be standing in the way when I do. Been that way my entire life, kinda puts a damper on early morning delight though.  Wink

She can't wait for you to go take a leak?   Grin

I haven't seen or experienced that level of enthusiasm for a long time.

Still don't/won't(Nancy and I don't live or sleep together), I was referring to Rita...the love I lost about 3.5 yrs. ago. She used to giggle over it, saying "honey, while you're up...oh, I see you aren't."  blush

all good things to consider.  I will mention a few to my mom's dr.  She has had 2 stents put in and 2 kidney stone surgeries back to back which at her age 80 and condition of altzheimers pretty bad is NOT a good combo to have all the past few months.   Mom just got an ultrasound of her tummy and UNREAL,  about 2 months now after the 2nd kidney stone surgery past 4 months or so she has 2 more larger kidney stones that may or may not cause her issues in the near future.

I know for a fact I do not drink enough water daily maybe two 10 ounces per day is about all and one 12 ounce diet coke is about it along with one 12 ounce tops of milk at night.    What I have been doing lately though to drink more water is get FLAVORED water and the easiest way to do that in my mug is to buy MIO flavored squirt bottle various flavors caffeine and caffeine free with energy, and put a good squirt in my mug  of water in the morning.

Cookiedough - you NEED to be drinking more. I'm always drinking something / pissing it out it seems. We even keep our bottles filled with water beside our bed so we can sip some more water when we get up during the night. Caffiene is a diuretic, so it really gets you needing to go.

I drink a lot of water and on days that I sweat a lot I’ll drink half a bottle of gatorlyte (less sugar than Gatorade).

However, John Tesh said it so it must be true that coffee is much less a diuretic than once thought and counts as your daily fluid intake. I drink 4-6 mugs of black coffees per day. No power drinks, no soda.

Not stone related, I haven't had a stone in 20 years. I tend to dehydrate myself, can't/won't drink much water.
Once I started making either cold or sun tea I find myself drinking a lot more. Probably not much help, but, it got me to drinking more.

All I drink is water unless I'm out for a beer or 3 with a tequila shot.

I've never drunk coffee and rarely drink any type of soda.

I have had 2 kidney episodes. The first I visited DR's and the second knowing what the problem was I let it take its course with a great deal of swearing and sweating.

As a gout sufferer I take Allopurinol every day and that did nothing for the swearing stones.

VRCC Oss suggested magnesium and since that day I've taken 500mg a day and (please don't let me curse myself) not even the slightest stone twinge.

My diet hasn't changed.

I had blood work done 2 weeks ago and my magnesium count was right in the middle.
