I post this at the risk of sounding like a commercial, only because I wish I had know about this back in May.
If you're looking for a good place to park some money right now, if you get some I series bonds ("I bonds") before Oct 28, you can lock in a 9.62% interest rate for 6 months. After 6 months, they will go to the new rate to be announced in November, which is guesstimated to be 6.48%. Still not too shabby. These bonds have no fixed rate, they have an adjustable rate based on inflation. The new rates are announced each May and November. Last May, they went to the highest they've ever been.
Here's the ups and downs of it: You can only get up to $10K worth per social security number per year (up to $15K if you designate your tax return to be in the form of I bonds). You can't withdraw the money for 12 months. If you withdraw within 5 years, you loose the last 3 months of interest (so you time your withdrawals when interest rates are down). Beats the bank rate by far. Safer than the market right now. You can get them on line from the government (treasurydirect.com).
Now back to the regularly scheduled program

I've already accrued $88 in interest on my investment of $5,000 back in April. Yee Ha!

Yup, I got in on this, last year & this year. Heard about it on Clark Howard’s podcast. Anybody heard of Clark Howard? Been a fan for maybe 10 years give or take.
