Edit by f6gal.
UPDATE: I'm sad to report that I have received word that Chip passed away yesterday.  God's speed Chip.  Prayers for his 16 y/o daughter. Cry

From Facebook, Valkyrie rider Chip Smith has had a pretty bad wreck..... I'm trying to find any info as to if he had a handle on the forum and/or attended any events, but regardless, passing along the info I've seen on other social media:

I just got some more info on Chip Smith who was in a bad motorcycle wreck with his Valkyrie. He was riding and an oncoming car crossed over the center line into his and took his leg. He is currently in the trauma ICU in Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. A great idea was given from another member to send cards and we’ll wishes by mail to help Chip know we are thinking about him. So if you want to reach out to him for support or a card you can send it by mail to this address and they will get it to him:

Chip Smith
** Edit.  Address removed.  Message f6gal if you need it.

Thanks y’all for your prayers and support I’m sure he will appreciate it once he’s able.

Edit to add - I did a little cyber stalking and found a pic of his bike and him:

Chip (aka: Leland) is in the Trauma Center.  I called the Trauma Center and was informed that they do not have a way to send well wishes within their system.    Nurses station said he has not been transferred to a room.

Normally, hospitals have an office one can send good thoughts, prayers and get well wishes to.   I know those I received after my crash helped improve my outlook on things.

Yeah, I searched all over their website and couldn't find that feature....

I looked up Chip on the VRCC. He joined in 2013.  He is registered on the message board, but not active. I don't believe I've ever met him.  He lists two different handles: "Hawk" on membership; "split Cloud" on the message board.

Praying for him.  Cry

Very sorry to hear this for Chip and his family. I believe he was at an InZane that I met him at a few years ago. Maybe in NC or VA I don't think it was Athens. Prayers for his healing and strength.  angel

I can't find a registration for him for an InZane.  Someone posted he was at one of Mac's Crazyhorse Veteran's Day Rides.

My oldest son lost his left leg to a car driver back in 2005. He was 18 at the time. He still rides. He's ridden my Valk a lot, but he was on his V-Max at the crash. If there's anything he can do to help, let me know and I can get word to my son.

Searched FB this morning seeking more info on Chips condition, saw where Erin Fowler posted that Chip was having another surgery Thursday but, no updates that I could find.

Keeping him and his family on top of my prayer list.   Should anyone get any updates, please post.

I hope the doctors and staff can help and there’s a speedy recovery coming soon.

I reached out to the person that posted initially on Facebook, there's not been any update on Chip's status. One extra detail I learned that makes it a little rougher, he's a single father to a 16 year old daughter Natalee...

Understanding he is a single father, I hope there is extended family to help with his daughter and the ongoing mundane things of life that have to be handled. I can imagine he is or will be overwhelmed with the situation he finds himself. Praying for his strength to help him carry on.

Yikes! Just saw this. Sparta is just down the mountain from me.
Prayers for him and family, this looks very bad.

Double Yikes, that looks like my old Tourer I sold to a man in Sparta, Tn. long time ago.
I robbed the bags and oem windshield and put them on my Standard. Don't remember the guy, but maybe traded around in that town. I would know it if I saw it up close. It's true what they say about the '97 Valks, it was a great runner.

Anyway, I hope and pray for the best outcome considering the seriousness. As said, he is a Brother.

If I remember correctly from FB posts, it's a red and white standard.   The pics I saw (as I remember) had a windscreen on it and bags but, I don't believe the bags were Honda.

Right, green & cream = Tourer, right? Aftermarket bags etc. is what gave me the start since I robbed all the Tourer stuff and put on my low mileage Standard. I painted the green parts blue and did not have to  paint the cream part.

From Erin Fowler on FB:
UPDATE on CHIP SMITH:
He had his surgery (I'm guessing yesterday) his leg is closed and the Dr's want his liver and kidneys to recover.  Will get another update when Natalee (his daughter) gets back to hospital after school.

I asked Wood if he knew if they were able to save the leg, reply:

He lost the leg in the wreck I was told, he had a surgery to close the stub a couple days ago. The only information I’ve been able to get is from his adopted daughter but she is giving my contact info to a representative for the family from the hospital about an hour ago so hopefully the updates will come more often and more detailed soon.

Update on Chip Smith: this is a text from Natalee his daughter. He is a single parent and she is still in school. We asked to be included in all of Chip's progress. An advocate will be contacting us on updates. (Hopefully)
Natalee to me- yes he’s doing a lot better he had a fungal infection in his dialysis tube but they changed it and they are treating him for the infection, his blood pressure and heart rate are stable and they are able to drain fluids from him with no problem. His kidneys and liver are starting to look better and they’re thinking he might wake up soon
