Edit to add  - And vacation request submitted..... Gave myself enough time to take a lackadaisical route there and/or back should I choose....

Or northerly to Peace Bridge, so KK can set foot in another foreign country.

Heh, yeah but unless I manage to get Blake over a border before then, that'd just be rubbing it in his nose that he's never left the USA...

Oh, btw.... The Saturday before the early bird is her (And obviously her brother's) 12th birthday.....)

Sounds like you and Blake need a run to Mexico.

That obviously depends on where one starts from.

I assumed you meant from your abode.  The boss will let you off work, as long as all your chores are done.

Which way are we going Joe?

I'm thinking Maine before or after.

The ground zero hotel from the previous Roanoke IZ appears to have been closed, demolished, and replaced by an apartment complex......

Whether I cage it depends on if I'm alone or Nancy comes with me. If alone, I'll ride the distance on the trike. If with company, I'll have to trailer it. She loves riding the trike but not a fan of long days in the saddle facing possible bad weather.

Ride the trike with some friends and have her fly into Roanoke. Both of you can enjoy the roads, rides and scenery.

Only been to Roanoke one time and that was for business. Flew a little twin in to the airport there and remember thinking "Where the Hell is the airport?" which appeared just after finally clearing the last of the hill or mountain tops. Should be a gorgeous place to hold the event.

The pilots of Airforce 1 do touch n go's at the Roanoke Airport fairly often as part of their training.

https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/10198233

They use the plane for Airforce 2 instead of the 747.

I've always been told that if you can land a plane at Roanoke's Airport, you can land one anywhere.

The previous GZ hotel is no longer a hotel; it's being converted to condos or apartments, something like that.

Wasn't that "tiff" the result of them not liking us congregating by the lobby entrance and then someone calling the entitled manager for parking in a handicap area without a placard/plate?

I got the impression they were more upset about us bringing and drinking our own beverages instead of procuring the overpriced ones from them...

That was exactly the issue.  They talked of calling the police, but that was all blow and no show.

Virginia does have a quaint law prohibiting drinking in public places, including your own front lawn.  It's a holdover from past times, and I doubt much (if ever) enforced.... in your own front lawn.  But a hotel parking lot is still a possible.

§ 4.1-308. Drinking alcoholic beverages, or offering to another, in public place; penalty; exceptions. A. If any person takes a drink of alcoholic beverages or offers a drink thereof to another, whether accepted or not, at or in any public place, he is guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor.

Other times and places, the complaint was a lot of noise pretty late, and in a public hotel/motel, that IS a problem, if there are other guests staying there.

In truth it was not so much they as it was one young man probably trying to impress his girlfriend who seemed to have felt looked at.

I understand he or someone terminated his employment with the hotel while we were still there.

This might sound silly, but any chance, I know too late for this one, but for future, one of the many things we get written into the contract, and makes it even more of a PITA for our hard working staff, some verbiage about "Attendees will be provided a place to drink beverages of their own, smoke cigars/cigarettes, and as long as they're not being loud and obnoxious, will be left alone to do so"?

Just a thought...... Generally we find that place, and try to not be a nuisance but good to have that in writing too.....

I'm still hopeful I'll be able to make this one, currently not looking good but hoping things change for the better, need some family time!

If it's in a coozy they won't mess with you because it can't be readily identified as an alcoholic beverage.

A mixed drink in a plain beverage glass isn't a problem either.
