This is my nephew Bryan, his wife, and kids in their family costume.
The little one, Melanie "MiMi," just turned 3.  She was just declared cancer free after 8 months of chemo.  She had Wilm's tumor and had a kidney removed before starting chemo.  It's been a rough year for her, but she's a trooper.

Wow, she is a trooper. I had a kidney removed a few years ago and know what that is like.
Great costumes.

It’s heartbreaking to see kids have to go thru this. Glad to hear she is doing good.  cooldude

A little back story on MiMi's journey.  Looking back, it's only been 8 months, not a year.

Feb 17, MiMi became quite ill; vomiting anything she ate and she wouldn’t move.
Feb 18, when taken the doctor, MiMi wouldn’t let him touch her tummy, so he sent her to the hospital for imaging.  She was diagnosed with left kidney Wilm's Tumor and admitted to ICU.  The tumor had ruptured and hemorrhaged (thus the severe abdominal pain and vomiting).
Feb 21, Left kidney was removed and port for chemo was placed.  Although testing indicated the cancer had not spread, since the tumor had ruptured, it was classified Stage 3; which meant radiation and chemo.
Feb 27, MiMi goes home!!  This is her big brother, Leo, helping her walk into the house.

Mar 4, MiMi starts radiation and chemo.  She really likes this hippo, it has a port, just like her.  Radiation for 7 days; chemo was supposed to be 6 months, but her ANC was too low on several occasions to receive chemo... which pushed out her end date.

Fast forward to Oct 13, after 7 1/2 months on chemo, MiMi is in remission.

And... she wants to be a doctor when she grows up! (This pic is before radiation and chemo.)

Love this and love she's in remission!

One observation though, wouldn't it be more accurate if the kids were the controllers and the parents were the controlled characters?  2funny

Mimi was very excited to get her port out yesterday (she really doesn't like it).
This is a huge deal!!  Now she is officially in remission!!
She will still have scans every three months for awhile.

Connie, beautiful story and pictures. Great smile on her at the end following port removal. It's always difficult for we adults to watch little ones go through all that she did but she appears to have handled it like a trooper.  cooldude
