Yesterday my friend Steve finally made it up to Ossining from the Bronx and we spent hours working on the Interstate
He started working for Con Ed recently and that makes time to play with bikes on the back burner and
I sure can understand that
Anyway, after taking off the overflow tank (like Skinhead suggested) and the right cover and moving the air horn guts out of the way he was able to start looking at how to be hooking up the new (to me anyway) positive cable   We left the battery box alone.

Then we went to work on identifying all the draws on the battery.  Steve said that the battery probably died because of the pending failure of that cable and I was lucky.   I hear that a lot    Huh? Grin

The air horn relay was fried as was a connection, so off to auto parts store for a new 5 pin relay and lunch

Then he had to strip and re-attach all the connectors to the aux fuse box which has the horn, my electric connections for heated gear and a few other doodads then I put copious amounts of electrical tape over anything that appeared to be able to conduct electricity

While that was going on I took off the tank and cleaned and re-oiled the amsoil air filter that had not been serviced since 2014 when BigBF did that in Phoenix.  After leaving his shop, I did go thru several severe dust storms (ever seen those scenes in the Mummy?)  including a real doozy near El Paso and was not surprised at how dirty the filter was

And just like after leaving BF's place I got a mile and the bike sputtered  Dang it if the petcock was at the 9 oclock which is off.  6 oclock is on.   Bill did it just to have fun with me, he did have a great sense of humor
Maybe I just had not adequately tightened that phillips screw?   But it is pointing down now so that is the on position and I had a nice 15 minute ride before the rain made the leaf strewn roads just really slippery and I went on home

The police bike he said, needs a new starter so I just ordered one off amazon prime for $72 with tax
The 1150RTP has new tread, mirrors, windscreen and only 85,000 miles on it so I want my commuter bike back even though with moving the clock it will only get weekend rides till spring

Amazing what a bit of wind in your face can do for the mind

Have a great day everyone

What is this maintenance thing you speak of ? Glad you got her back on the road. Temps dropping into the 30s here , so no scootering for a while.

Glad to hear you're back on the road.

"then I put copious amounts of electrical tape over anything that appeared to be able to conduct electricity"....mmm, sounds familiar.
This is one thing I plan on cleaning up on my Valk this Winter, fixing the rat's nest that is my accessory connections. I try not to let anyone see what I've got going on under my seat...I'm sure it would produce a few eye rolls from those in the know Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

BigBF got rid of my rats nest and wired in the Eastern Beaver PC 8 I bought.

it appears Eastern Beaver doesn't make the same item with that designation anymore.

it seems there are quite a few alternatives now.

Yes, this is my plan this Winter. I don't have a lot of accessories, just for the Mrs's heated jacket liner, my USB/12V plug in and my old Garmin GPS I use on rare occasions. I don't use the satellite radio I wired up years ago any longer so I'll strip that wiring out of there. With my luck and electrical skills, I'll probably turn a complete rat's nest system that has never given me any trouble all these years into a much tidier and better lookin' system that doesn't work  Smiley
