Gone but not forgotten.
I knew yesterday was the 6th and tomorrow would be the 7th. Every day Barbara turns the date on the small wooden blocks on the calendar we have in the kitchen window and seeing the number 7 today brought the reality of the date into the forefront.
Thoughts and prayers to all who served and perished that day and with great gratitude thank everyone who served in the following years. It must have been hell but as a nation we rallied in many ways. It was the beginning for many things to come, especially women in the workplace, just look at the things they accomplished in the building of virtually everything necessary to win the war.
May God bless America, our service members and grant eternal rest and peace to those who served and died defending our country.

This was a very sad day in US History. The lesson of what happens when a country is totally unprepared for conflict should not be forgotten. The USS Arizona going down: The USS Arizona Memorial:

When I was at Pearl in 1964 some of the damage though painted over was still visible as bullet hits from what I was informed the attacking Enemy Aircraft. And I have traversed some of the same sea areas where tremendous Naval Battles had occured. Of course any remaining ships and such were not visible to the naked eye. But I've since seen videos of some of the remains of those battles from some undersea explorers. December 7th 1941 a date which will live in infamy. Such events should remind the public that we should never let our guard down and keep our intel up to date and our military prepared to respond to any attack. Yes, this day and 9/11 should never be forgotten. As a side note, on this date 41 years ago, I asked the love of my life to be my wife. She accepted. Ironically, our vows were exchanged on the following 6 of June. There has to be some kind of lesson to be learned from that............ Rams

The list of US intelligence failures is a long one. The list of US leadership failing to properly act with known intelligence is not quite as long, but almost. Payback is a bitch though.

If we were to “wake-up “ the fallen from that war so long ago, and give them a good hard look at what passes for leadership, devotion to God and country, and sacrifice for the common good, I feel they might think we aren’t honoring their sacrifice. Words are cheap and our actions haven’t been reflecting the opportunities afforded to all of us by those we lost in that conflict and the ones that have followed.
JMHO.

I think you might be selling our leadership (and us) short. Let’s not forget, there was a large contingent of the country (and its leaders) that were dead set against getting involved. Sometimes events make the man (or woman). For any that haven’t been to the USS Arizona, you should. It’s a very spiritual place. Even for a 20 year old that only had 2 things on his mind.

Gwen and me were out in HI in 1994 for the commissioning of the USS Lake Erie (a Tico cruiser). One of the Supply officers onboard was with us at NAVDIST Washington DC (he was in charge of the enlisted dining hall at Anacostia). The CO of the Lake Erie was making his Captain's gig available for harbor tours, so we got to goto the Arizona on that instead of having to take the "cattle barge" that ordinary tourists used.

The most sad thing is. You ask the majority of young people today what happened on December 7, 1941. They have no idea.
