I left the house this morning about 8:30 and visibility was maybe 200 yards which is not all that unusual living close to the Kentucky River. I returned home at 10:30 and it was still quite foggy. It’s 4:30 in the afternoon and it’s still foggy. I can usually see houses 3 streets over clearly and I can’t even see the next street over clearly. I can’t remember ever having fog hang on all day. Just struck me as odd.

Not too bad John. We have had some heavy fog in the pan-handle lately. In fact we had to back up our RTE tomorrow morning because of it.

Was up in Tallahassee a couple of weeks ago and woke up to fog. Its almost magical what happens when the silence descends on the area, cool and sometimes as you drive along you can feel the mist on your face.

Thats really nice, I like it. Thanks for the compliments, it is a nice area that our realtor found for us when we gave up on being able to find a similar place in Lexington, closer to our grandkids. We’re five miles from town, close to 100 houses in the subdivision with access from a single point and that seems to make potential thieves look for other opportunities. Just behind the house in the picture is a horse stable which boards a half dozen +/- horses that adds to the country setting. My realtor who recently had back surgery, sent his girlfriend by our house today and drop off a Christmas Poinsettia, needless to say he is a very successful realtor. We are blessed to be here at this stage of our lives.

I like that too, but the wife has walking pneumonia and I’m dosing up every night, so I elected to not go for the mist on my face this morning.

Uh John...your wife missed something. You have a broken slat (?) in your guardrail, right in the middle. Nice looking area my friend, and I'll bet it's a lot warmer than where I am about now.

My wife wants to completely enclose that deck, which has given me the excuse to do absolutely nothing to it for 3 years. That one broken piece is the least of the problems with the deck. The 6x6’s and 2x10’s are fine and everything else needs to be replaced. I have been waiting on Trex decking to become an affordable solution but I’m not convinced it’s going to happen. It’s probably warmer right now, but you Northerners have a bad habit of leaving the back door open and then we really catch it!

John, Reference that fog, have you checked those glasses recently.......... The deck, let me know when you're ready to take on that task, I'm prepared to come up and help out by supervising when not really needed, coaching when not wanted and taking pictures of the process when least appreciated. You know me, anything I can do to help you stay on track. Rams

Hey, I'm with Rams...willing to come down and lend an unneeded hand at the least opportune time. After all, what are friends for. I'll even bring some of our useless cold air with me to keep things cooler while not working. Just think what you could accomplish with two supervisors.

That is really awesome, I would just want to sit with a cup of coffee and watch that.

I got to replace my decking this coming year but we've gotten 28 yrs. without treating totally exposed to the elements. I repaired a couple places due "knot" rot. Trex or any variant will eventually sun rot but when, don't know. I'm staying with 5/4 wood though "Yellarwood" might be tad expensive over Home Depot/Lowe's offerings. We'll see.

I got to replace my decking this coming year.
I built a giant deck off my house 25 years ago (yellow pine), and stained it many times with good stuff. The hot tub and fountain I put on it didn't do it much good.
Had a lot of fun out there, but I never use it anymore.
It now needs 17 #1 2X6's, and I'm not doing it. Each board is held down with 4" twist nails and toe nailed on the edges too. I patched all the holes with scrap lumber, various plywood and boards. It's a good thing it's in the back yard, because it's pretty embarrassing, but it's safe and no one will fall through. The next owner can have fun with it, whenever that happens.
