My wife and I Colorado Daves "Ten Days of Riding of the Best Roads in Colorado and Utah" to do the 4 corners in 2008 and could not have been happier with his selected route(s).  This year we plan to do the northern Rockies from somewhere in Montana to Baniff or Galgory.  If someone could point me in the direction of a link to preferred routes it would be much appreciated.  This will be a mid August 10 day trip.  Thanks in advance.

You HAVE to ride thru Glacier National Park on the USA Canadian border.

You HAVE to ride the whole length of the Icefields Parkway

Revelstoke south on 23 trhu Nakusp, Slocan and then east on 3A across Kootenay Bay to Porthill Idaho was a nice ride and a very quiet border crossing. The ferry crossings are fun.

Be very careful about passing a gas staion without filling up. I don't care if you've only gone 40 miles, sometimes it's gonna be wise to top off. Especially in Montana

Lefty,

Welcome to the community!

I am based in Calgary and would be happy to provide some information.  There is a great 5 to 6 day loop from Calgary through Banff into British Columbia via Kelowna and Osoyoos and back to Calgary.  Give me a few days and I get some more information to you.

My favourite pieces of road in SE BC and SW Alberta.  Except as noted, both directions are more or less equal:

SE BC:
Hwy 3A, Creston to Kootenay Bay/Balfour ferry (ferry's free)
Hwy 31A, Kaslo to New Denver
Hwy 6, Slocan to Nakusp to Fauquier/Needles (free) ferry, then to Cherryville
Hwy 23, Nakusp to Galena Bay/Shelter Bay (free) ferry
You probably can't go wrong for scenery on other roads in SE BC but the roads above are for RIDING.

SW Alberta:
Hwy 93, Lake Louise to Jasper (or at least to the Columbia Ice Fields).  This stretch of road is the whole reason for a motorcyclist to come to Alberta.  To miss this would be like going to the Black Hills of South Dakota and not bothering to see Mt. Rushmore.
Hwy 40 & 541, Hwy 1 to Longview
Hwy 1, Golden BC to Lake Louise
Hwy 1, Calgary to Canmore (heading west provides the climax of scenery, heading east not so much.)
Hwy 1A, Lake Louise to just west of Banff
Hwy 1A, Canmore to Cochrane
Hwy 22, everywhere, but particularly as an alternative to Hwy 2 south of Calgary
Hwy 11, Hwy 93 to Rocky Mountain House
Hwy 762 & 549, Bragg Creek to Millarville
Hwy 533, Nanton to Hwy 22
Hwy 6, Pincher Creek to Chief Mountain border crossing.

Thanks to all for your response, the VRCC has been a valuable resource for many years (member #6593).  I utilized this same approach for our 4 Corners Epic in 2008 and Misfit hooked us up on many of the details to that "over the top" ride!

This ride will coincide with our 30 anniversary.  It was either a Cozumel all inclusive or an epic ride and she decided epic. What a lady!

I'll send Canadian Viking an Email as it's his home turf.  Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks again. cooldude
