Check out the Vantrue line. Inexpensive and highly rated. I've used the N1Pro model for a couple of years and am happy with its performance.

I have the Garmin Mini 2.  Very basic.  If your car has an automatic day/night mirror, you can get an adapter that taps into the power for the mirror for the dash cam.  Dongar makes the adapter.  So, no ugly cords to hide.
