My friend Nancy has maintained that at her age she wasn't interested in an engagement ring. So, I decided to take my Rita's(RIP) wedding ring to see if it was worth anything for either trade or could be used to create a diamond pendant. A particular local shop was suggested so tried that after a couple other shops you see on TV all the time. Those places weren't the least bit interested so went to the local suggestion. When you first walk in it's sensory overload. It's jewelry, antiques of all kinds...not just jewelry, just about anything you could want but the jewelry portion was the largest area. I talked to a couple people while there, got an estimate of Rita's ring which was encouraging, then started looking at various pendants. I finally decided on one that really caught my eye and asked for a price with Rita's ring in trade. The picture below is what I bought, thankfully the trade-in played a big part in my purchase. Needless to say, my lady was both surprised and excited. It was a good evening to be sure. The pendant has a nice size stone with baguettes surrounding it. The chain is long enough so she can wear her little cross necklace above it without it looking overdone.  PS: She said YES! And I got up off one knee without help.  |

Thanks for all the kind comments guys, can you believe I had trouble getting to sleep last night. Guess I was still hyped up on the evenings activities. Wish I had a video of her reaction, it was classic.  Was hard to leave her place and drive home in sub-zero temps. Due to Wisconsin's marital property laws, there won't be a "next step" until her house is sold. She's putting it on the market due to its age(nearly 100 yrs.) and becoming a money pit, something we don't need at this stage of life. We're actually thinking of renting in a place where we don't have to worry about facility upkeep such as repairs, mowing, snow removal, etc. We can leave for extended periods without worry...like Florida in winter. |

One of Nancy's lady friends even commented/joked about that. So...JUST so you know, I do as much as 270lbs. in a leg press at the gym and I don't come close to that in personal weight. Now for an excuse, I have been a bit weak in the knees after a "warming" session following a cold drive over there. |
