Following the weather of the last few days, I now have a 3' bank in front of the front door and sliding glass doors, a 3' snowbank under the windows of both bedrooms, and a 2' snowbank on the roof of the garage. The only reason the parking lot is fairly clear is due to the 30-40 mph winds of the last couple days. Told my daughter the only reason we have this kind of weather is because Wisconsin sucks, which creates a vacuum and therefore draws bad weather in. Now, we're planning a couple weeks in Port Richey in March(sharing a one month house rental w/my daughter & family) and Nancy is suggesting we look around down there at that time. The idea she has is to become a snowbird, even if it's only a rental it beats the heck out of this place for 5-6 months.

We are also having cold weather here John but nothing compared to what you are experiencing. Snow Bird plans for you and your daughter's family sounds like great plan

Many of my fathers side of the family came from and some are still in the Sparta/Elroy area. My father used to tell me the farmers up there placed manure up against the house come November to keep the house warm in the 1940s. It is a beautiful place…….in the summer. I used to snowmobile up in the Cable/Hayward area yes minus 36° is common place and Lake Namekagon ice must have thee to four feet thick! No thanks.

Jerry, just think how I felt having to move north in 2019 after 53 yrs. in Fla. When I moved there I was 29 and adapted to the heat rather easy. I was 81 when I moved here and adapting to the cold wasn't easy at that age. But, now I'm near my youngest daughter finally. Since her leaving home after HS we've never lived close. She married a Navy guy that got stationed in Adak, AK, then to Sicily...all rather difficult for me to visit. Now, we're 7 minutes apart (if I catch all the lights) and it's kinda nice. I get to spend time with her and her three kids and one overactive 2.5 yr. old g-granddaugter.

Well the number of people moving to Florida is changing the area I used to think was paradise. We drive around Sarasota in the Mini Cooper convertible and we don’t recognize we’re we are at times. This ain’t flipper’s Florida any more. Maybe north central Florida still has a chance but sooner or later they will get that area too.

Jerry , man your so right about changing landscape here . I have lived my whole life in San Antonio. It's changing and it's happenig fast. It is still home . I'd be looking for the mountains as well if the grandkids weren't here. We too have added a convertable to the stable for days we dont to ride the wing.

It's ready to go except for a couple things needed off the current motor such as timing belt cover and alternator. Had to put it on the backburner for a few months due to an unheated garage, probably be about April before I can work on it comfortably. I do have the extra wiring figured out to operate the reverse but might just do the engine swap first to make sure all is well with the motor, then go back in to add the electrical part to power up the starter to operate at a slower rpm. If that isn't added, you'll be backing down the parking lot at 20mph...not a pleasant feeling I'm sure.

John, I understand wanting a reverse, especially on a heavy trike, but choosing parking/stopping spots carefully probably takes care of about 98% of back up problems. That seems like a big project. I remember moving up to a big 80 inch HD dresser in CA (from a CB750), and having some trouble up at Big Bear CA (in the mountains), nose down on a street. I was struggling to back it uphill with the wife standing by. A guy on a big Hog (next to me) came out and watched, and announced.... that's what wives are for; he jumped on his, and then his wife bent at the waist and pushed him out/up on the forks (with his leg assist). I looked hopefully at my wife and asked if she could do the same. And she did. There is unquestionably some embarrassment in this. Now that I think about it, I suppose backing down on a curb (to be nose up) is also more tricky on a trike.

Jess, in my travels this past summer I asked one hotel mgr. if I could park under the front canopy, which he OK'd. Or, could park off to the side but needed to be able to back out so when he asked if I had reverse, I told him I left her at home. He gave me a funny look then suddenly laughed...a little slow I guess.
As for the big project, it kinda falls into the category of "you're never done doing stuff to the bike" so that's part of my reasoning. That...plus the convenience of a reverse. I had kind of a "sporting" discussion a few months ago re. whether the resistor pack that controls the starter speed was in series or parallel. So to disprove or prove a point, I hooked it up in series while still on the bench, applied power and I'm not sure how long a nanosecond is but probably longer than it took to blow out those resistors. I then hooked it up in parallel with a second resistor set which I had to buy off Ebay and it worked as designed. That kit has three resistors so I hooked them up one at a time and watched how it affected the starter motor speed. Series or parallel is probably greek to some, but makes a huge difference in how a circuit operates.
