It's been a while since I've watched a made for TV series that keeps me  wanting  to start the next episode.

Faith Hill and husband Tim McGraw are 2 of the lead characters and do a very plausible job in their roles.

The script is good, camera work is excellent and the rest of the cast especially Sam Elliot (normally not a fan) all bring their A games.

There are actors with cameos. Tom Hanks for about 2 minutes and Billy Bob as one of the most hard core western Marshals seen on TV.

I'd thoroughly recommend singing up for Paramount for this series and the follow up 1923 starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.

4 thumbs up.

1923

I am watching all the Dutton shows. But they, especially 1923, have the same fatal
flaws as almost all modern shows and movies. All the white people are scum bags.
If the white people are Christian, they are also sociopaths or perverts. The Indians are all
stoic and wise and strong and honest.

I agree saw 1st one episode 1883 on NON Paramount regular TV without having to pay extra monthly to watch the 1st episode.  Irks me why all these different mthly subscription services are out there nowadays just to watch 1 or 2 good shows, yet another way to make money.  Sorta like Spotify and other music services mthly fees, not going to pay for it even though be nice to have, but can live without.

by the time, like my kid, has Paramount Plus, Youtube TV, and other streaming services, is just as much monthly or more than dish network TV.  Thinking of switching to youtubeTV but have not done it yet.  My kid has it, but I do not like the ease of recording or pausing and other features use to with either having Direct TV or Dish network for decades now.

Wife and I watched it when it first came out.  I enjoyed it and the scenery and the script.   Now we started watching the 1923 Yellowstone  thing.   Saw three episodes last night and it was pretty good.

But I am sort of getting them all mixed up mentally.   Had to look it up to figure it out for sure.

The proper order in "historical" terms is 1883 followed by 1923 and then Yellowstone.

I have not watch Yellowstone yet.

Well darn it. The last 2 episodes drifted off into soap opera.

We've been watching Yellowstone and have enjoyed it.   Love the two characters of Beth and Rip.  Kostner is good in his role.
Tried watching 18 whatever, lost interest about the third viewing.   Just my opinion but Faith and Tim should stick to music.
Have also been watching the Ford/Mirren version and it's been pretty good so far.   Just my opinion be sequels and prequels have to be really good to live up to the expectations the original set.

The modern Yellowstone is a violent (mostly outdoor) soap-opera filmed in the most beautiful location.  The theme of holding on to your property and heritage is a good one.  Same goes with the Indians (native Americans).  The bad guys get killed spectacularly (which I always enjoy).   Grin

I like 1883 better because it is a (pretty good) western.  And not so much of a soap opera.  Isabel May is an inspirational, adventurous and brave girl, similar to Mattie Ross' in both True Grits.

Yellowstone has petered out. Lots of fluff and no substance . Taylor Sheridan is spreading his self to thin. Used the free sub to watch 1883. Glad I did not buy. Not worth it. 1883 tried to be a Lonesome Dove ripoff. Just me. But. I ain't falling for any of the "streaming" stuff. Just another way for the media to get your hard earned money. They already have my money for their satellite channel. Why they not show their "streaming" stuff there?

I like streaming. I like no commercials. I like paying for arbitrary stuff a la carte
rather than 100 channels of commercial ridden stuff I don't care two cents about.
