Josie aka "Grammy Dog".  Our Chocalate Lab/Springer mix.......should would have been 13 this spring.  She was all the dog that I could have ever wanted.  My outdoor companion, she helped me work on the Valkyrie, cars, do lawn work, play with the frisbee, or tennis balls, anything that she could run after and bring back, and if she could not "help" she was always there by my side.  As soon as we went in the house she was Mary's dog, she really knew how to spread the love.  She had a great nose, but did not hunt, she would rather lay on the couch and watch a movie and eat popcorn.  Anything for a treat, "lay down, now roll over", "bang!, play dead", shake, sit, and her favorite trick that I would let all of the kids preform, put a treat on the end of her nose, "now Josie stay, stay, no cheating, stay, get it!"  The treat would fly in the air and more times than not she would catch it.  She was also well known for her begging abilities.  Loved to go for a ride, loved her "nummies", loved to chase the cat with a quick "get the kitty" and off they went.  Loved to camp, not too sure if she liked being in the fishing boat with us, but I think that she tolerated it for us.  We would go to the local c store on Sundays, I would get the paper, she would get a donut.  As she got older she became more of a care giver, that is where she got the name "Grammy", she was just like a Grandmother to all of the new puppies that she would meet.  She was so gentle to them, the only 65 pound dog that I have ever seen that would roll around on the ground with a 10 pound puppy and never hurt them or show any aggression, just entertain them like Grandma would do.  Too many memories to list.  Her health started to fail, and we knew it was time.  This morning Josie went to heaven at 9:15 am.  My Mom loved Josie, my Mom went to heaven 9 months ago, so now she has Josie as a companion.  I will miss you Joe, take care of her Mom, I love you both.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have to go home now to feed my awesome 10 year old dog Bonnie her special food  - she has developed
some kind of problem that might turn out to be her liver...

Scooby, there's another dog out there somewhere that needs to be taken care of by someone like you...

I've lost several furry friends over the years so I know how you feel.   Cry  Grammy is waiting patiently for you to join her.   angel

We had to put down our Maltese in August, right before our youngest went off to college.  I feel your pain.  I miss Murphy every day.  Lizzie and I are not sure we will get another dog.  Don't want
to go thru those final hours again.

Sounds like you had a great dog.

It is really a bummer losing a canine buddy.  I have lost a number of them over the years and it doesn't get any easier.

RIP Josie

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

If I dont make it to heaven...I hope I at least make it to the rainbow bridge  Cry
