This link copied from Facebook so it you don't go there, you may not be able to see this video.

High Water over the road, unknown depth and folks get through, all but the motorcyclist who doesn't even slow down.   Sorry but not much sympathy for an idiot.  It's not like he couldn't see that river/lake in front of him.

There's a couple of famous fords in the UK that have become video cultish. That's one of them.

One of them has been closed because whackadoodles kept stalling in the water and had to be rescued.

I got in progressively deeper water in a sudden rain deluge on the I 66 freeway.

When it got 6 inches deep and I was throwing a wake, I slowed way down.

So did the car behind me.  Thank goodness.

The cars BESIDE me kept flying by and I received their wake.  Along with the rain deluge.

Mighty damp I tell you.   Grin

In Arizona we have what's called the Stupid Motorist law.  If you drive across a flooded wash and get stuck and have to be rescued, you pay for the rescue.

Hmm, whether it's the law or not, I would expect that.   One never knows what's going to be needed but, that's precisely why I carry "Tow In" insurance.   It only costs a couple bucks a month and I've used it several times when some of the antique cars I used to have let me down.

Usually our rescues are where the car is washed off the road and carried down the wash and the occupants are either trapped in the car or clinging to trees, etc, so its usually beyond towing.

Classic line in Risky Business (1983) when Tom Cruise has the Porshe collapse off the dock into the water, and then they open the door at the dealer and water and fish flow out, and the dealer guy says

.............. OK, who's the U Boat commander?    2funny

I must admit, when we first moved here I wasn’t familiar with this flash flooding stuff. The Vicksburg cutoff was flooded and blocked off with a barrier. A semi truck didn’t hesitate and went around it. I figured what the Hell, and followed. It got pretty deep after a while, but luckily no current. Judging where the road should be was the hardest part. We were VERY lucky. After seeing how bad things could turn for other people I learned to heed warnings and barriers.

The Only thing I come up with is DUMB AZZ! Here in Southern Missouri we have quite a few crossings that Can and Will flood with some serious rain. All the ones I've been over Are Well posted. One on Mo. 95 comes to mind. One Sunday after Church that crossing was a No Go. That Monday after watching other vehicles I KNEW I Should be able to go. Removed helmet IN CASE and my boot heels were leaviving their own wake. 2 days later I could NOT PROVE there had been high water there!  crazy2 RIDE SAFE.

Mike,
The Staff wouldn't go for the dunk tank last year, I have my doubts they'd lead the group through that.

But, we can always hope.

Actually I went on a ride, IIRC it was the memorial ride when we forded a flooded road.

In the OP he went in too fast.  It was not just trying to cross, but the sudden Decell that got him.  Probably could have made it if it wasn't his first rodeo.

Carl,
Does this mean the Dunk Tank is under consideration for this year?

I've forded streams on my Valkyrie 1500, ST1300 and KLR650 . Each time I've stopped, parked and walked to the edge of the water. If I can't see the bottom I turn back.

I've even walked into the water a short way with a long stick to check depth.

Nearly every time water has gone over my boots.  Grin

Being older and wiser I'm determined to not do any fording on the V1800.  cooldude

Once while riding my Elsinore 125 as a teenager I hit water that was flooding the roadway.

It really wasn't much more than a very large mud puddle and I was only running 25-30mph.

I've never stopped quicker in my life.

The original entrance to Cataloochee campground when it was primitive only required a trip up a gravel road after crossing a small ford. After crossing the peak and dropping back into a valley there was another ford that was "cross at speed" for low slung cars, i.e., a Chevy Malibu circa 1967. After crossing the next ridge and entering the GSM campground it was as described, primitive. The bathing facilities were the same creek that had already been twice forded and pit toilets ere not close to the camping area. (Maybe a blessing?) It rained on that ridge 4 days out of 5 all summer long so one had to dig a BIG trench around the tent. Only bike I was on for one of those trips was a CL450 and just putted through the fords because the stones would have put me in the water if I tried to plane the ford like that old Chevy.

Growing up in the Texas Hill Country, we saw lots of flash flooding.  Rule of thumb was, if you can't see the stripe all the way across, you don't go.
