Back in oct 2022 I'd asked about decent comany for cell svc provider. Had lotsa suggestions. Decided to go with Liberty Mobile. And my first billing period with taxes IS LESS than I was paying for straight talk from wally wurld. AND as a nice surprise as a Veteran I do git an extra 15% off my bill every month!  cooldude And the entire shebang located here in AMERICA The Republic of Texas to be exact!  cooldude And B T W many thanks to lotmot for the suggestion of this provider.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

My carrier, Total Wireless, charges me $34.52 for 5GB plus junk fees.

the key for us where I live is cell phone reception.  ONLY one that is decent and still has dead zones near me in a few main areas I drive is US Cellular.  I tried Verizon which works well just 6 miles north of me closer to Madison WI, but does not work well for calls where I live to many dead zones.

One would think in today's age,  coverage/reception/dead zones would be a thing of the past?

Cell phone reception is mostly an infrastructure issue. Sounds like your area needs more towers closer to those dead zones.

There are plenty of very inexpensive plans around. T-Mobile offers a great plan for old folks (55+) for only $35 a month, including all taxes and fees. It includes unlimited everything plus a free AAA membership and Netflix, and even in flight wi-fi on some airlines. The price is for 2 lines and rises to $50 if you only have one.

AT&T has a $30 prepaid plan that offers unlimited talk/text and 5 GB of data. You can roll over unused data, and lately they've been adding another 5 GB as a bonus.

If you really want a cheap plan, T-Mobile offers a very basic prepaid plan for only $15 a month. It includes unlimited talk/text (as they all do) with data capped at 3 GB. If you don't use much data that's got to be the cheapest plan available.

US cellular has cell phone towers all over nearby us.  It is the rural HILLS that are causing issues in certain areas.

That 1 line thingy is Exactly where I am. So $4.50 from say $30.00 is $25.50. THATS the 15% discount  fer being a Veteran. Home based In Dallas Republic of Texas. And so far so good. I have some rolling hills here in SoMo that DO affect most cell services in this area. And when I was still wheelin a big truck all over America desert ad mountain area cell service was spotty. Figurin be while for any one cell service to be near perfect IF thats even possible. RIDE SAFE.
