BTW, with mention of Shiner....

I happen to have some very rare, impossible to get more of, bottles of Balcones Texas Bock; a straight malt Texas whisky distilled from Shiner Bock beer.....

...IF there are others attending that would join me in partaking such a rare bottle, I would HAPPILY bring it, after all fine whisky is best enjoyed shared with friends...

But I don't wanna bring it if it's just gonna be me sipping it in the parking lot alone....

So.... Anyone interested?

True friends don’t let friends drink alone!

Seriously, I would like to try it, but definitely don’t bring it just on my account.  Unless it is “some kinda smooth”, my consumption would be minimal.

Thanks Serk.

BTW,  I hope the weather holds out for you.  I thought we were going to get washed/blown away between late Saturday and early Monday.  We got 11.5” of rain.  Thursday is looking nice and sunny for us folks heading west.

Ne safe.

Bummer on the food truck, but you're a boss for trying to cover all the bases, Rams!

Did I hear it right that some folks are coming in Thursday and wanted to meet at Buffalo Wild Wings and maybe consume some wings and beer, such as Shiner Bock?

If so, I'd love to be there! What's a good time for those shenanigans to ensue?

I am definitely game for wings and a beer Thursday, Friday OR Saturday night.  No specific plans, but if I do get to partake, I’ll try to be sure you get invited.  When are you arriving?

I believe I will be at Ron and Alice’s on Thursday and at the hotel Friday - Sunday morning.

Sweet! I'm local to the Hattiesburg area, probably about 10 minutes from Ron. I can make any of those nights work.

Wish we coulda made it tonight, but alas, stretching my resources to make it at all.....

The first 50 or so miles outta Dallas had light rain and HORRIBLY cross winds, the kind where you're randomly and suddenly countersteering HARD to keep from going into the cheese slicers they love to put along the freeways these days...

The rest of the ride was nice and high speed....

Made it to Shreveport to rest our heads tonight, headed to ground zero tomorrow.... See ya'll soon!

Glad you are able to make it Serk.  Safe travels tomorrow.

We had a good crowd tonight …. Especially considering the gathering doesn’t start till tomorrow.  There were 15 of us partaking in wings and a cold one.  Good times!

We be 'Flinging'! Contrary to a couple of reports, including two phone interrogatories of the staff of Buffalo Wild Wings in Hattiesburg, that place does indeed serve Shiner Bock draft beer!!! I know that for a fact, as I did indulge... I'm also inclined to agree with Tubby that the draft is actually a bit better to my taste buds than that from a bottle. The bottle renderings are, of course, very much to my liking, it's just that the draft is even better!

We had a variety of an 'Early Bird Special' extravaganza this year on Thursday evening (last night). No, the VRCC Staff did not host this event, nor did they pick up the tab; they did, however, sanction it. Still, there were a few merry makers show-up, and a very good time was had by all...

This outing was special for another reason: We had a day early birthday to acknowledge... Lori Holmes (Motomama). I have no idea which anniversary of her 29th birthday was being celebrated, but a big deal was made of the whole thing... Heck, I even astonished many around me by actually singing the traditional song right along with everyone else, and even more surprising, I actually remembered all of the words... HBD MM!!! Cake courtesy of Ron (RAMS).

I just can't wait to see what might happen tonight!!!

DDT (12)

P.S. Well dah! There is a number right on the cake... Anyway, we all enjoyed celebrating with gusto!!!

Glad you made it safe, Serk!

Had a great time on the ride today. Y'all are a bunch of awesome, welcoming folks, despite what Rams had warned me about.

Stoked for riding tomorrow!

Don't know what folks are up to tonight, but I remember someone mentioned karaoke at some point. There's usually karaoke on Friday's over at Don Chuy's on the west side of Hattiesburg (6555 US-98, Hattiesburg, MS 39402).  They start at 8:30 or 9 or so. Food is pretty okay.

I want to thank all of those who attended and those who provided assistance to Spring Fling.   A special thanks to Mac McCain and Mike Floyd, ride captains.   I heard comments that all involved enjoyed the time and roads.

I told folks who attended and now the Valkyrie world, this is the last Spring Fling I would host.

I do hope and encourage folks to continue to meet and enjoy such events and I do intend to attend other events in the future like InZane.   Thanks again, it's been fun.

Ron, thank you much for all the effort.  I have only organized very small groups and can only imagine the immense amount of effort you put into this Spring Fling. It was a privilege to attend and get to share some time with some of the legends of the Valkyrie world. I truly hope you change your mind and do it again. Hope to see you on the road, and in the wind.

Ride safely,

Sweet Cheeks is safely home.

I received a text from Porky133 saying he is safely home as well.

Many thanks for everything Ron.  Your hard work is noted and appreciated!  I do hope you will reconsider continuing the event.  Please tell Alice I’m sorry I missed her, but totally understand her being in Memphis.

It was great seeing everyone.  Also a special shout out to Dennis, Mitch and Mac for the work on my bike to be sure I could get home safely.  You guys are awesome!

I am the world’s worst about capturing memories in pictures but I’ll share the two I took.

Lots of eye candy at this gathering and a relatively new member to the madness who will remain nameless unless he identifies himself. Some people are in witness protection you know! cooldude

Not the best angle, but for all the yellow aficionados this ranks right up there!

This was a fantastic gathering Valkyrie enthusiasts and as usual, not a dud in the bunch, huh, well I was there…,

I got home at about 5:45 CST this morning. I looked at the radar map and made a snap decision that I wanted to be in front of the system that was in Texas and inching its way east. So I rather abruptly loaded up the Wing and headed out of Hattiesburg Sunday evening about an hour of two before dark.

I wasn’t sure how the ride would go, whether I would run out of steam, when I would run out out steam, wildlife encounters, zombie encounters. At least 550 of the 700 miles was in the dark of night but I was never alone. Lots of people must like to travel at night and of course truckers were constant companions. Most all of the highway patrol people must have been doing paperwork as the only encounter I has was with a Sheriffs Dept car in Mississippi who came up behind me and immediately left me in his dust. 80 mph was my speed of choice but once I had a yawning attack I backed it down to 75 for safety’s sake!

Once I crossed the Kentucky state line I got my second breath so to speak and was certain I would make it the 170 +/- miles the rest of the way home. It got notably cooler around 2 AM and I had already been adding layers to my clothing since the first gas stop back in Tuscaloosa so my last addition was a pair of insulated gloves which negated the effectiveness of the heated grips that had been taking care of my thin gloved hands. All in all I was only moderately chilly, but maybe 10 more degrees of air temperature would have been welcomed.

I can’t recommend this type of travel planning, or lack there of, but it all worked out.

I once rode from Ann Arbor to VA overnight when the power had been out for two days at my brother's place in MI, and it was 100* both days.  Laying and trying to sleep in sweat was wasted effort, so I packed up, showered, and took off.  It was all good (and cooler), until I came across a heard of deer running across the PA turnpike, and came to a dead stop in the middle of the turnpike waiting for them to pass (with no other cars in sight).  At first, all I saw was a dozen sets of glowing eyes in the dark.... spooky.

I’ll confirm, it was Hayes aka DarkHorseGuy in the photo.

The pic was in the garage of Mac McCain.

I envy y’all being able to cover those miles overnight. The deer in my neck of the woods like to jump out in front of you, so I have a fear of being on the bike after dark. Maybe I’ll work on overcoming that fear … or not. LOL. Anyway, glad everyone is getting home safely.

F6John, was that Ron's garage in Hattiesburg (2 pictures)?

Jess,
Nope, that's Mac's shop and SP RV.   Several notches above what I had.   Gave mine to my son.
Regardless, Mac's shop is special.
