Hi Everyone, Just wondering for those who of you who carry cameras and other photographic gear on the Valk, what steps do you take to protect your equipment from the jarring etc that we sometimes expeience on the road. I am not talking about the point and shoot cameras that fit in your pocket, I am talking about the DSLR type of equipment. Any advice will be appreciated.

What I do with my Canon, Camcorder or my Netbook, I have a piece of 1 1/2" soft foam and sandwich around the item and have no issues. The soft foam suspends the item and soaks up the energy from bumps and jars. Like I said I never had any problems.

I've carried my Canon 30D with two or three expensive lenses in a camera bag in the Valk's saddlebags. I never had a problem. Plenty of padding in the camera bags. However I have taken out a scheduled insurance policy for my camera gear for breakage, loss, and theft. Cheap insurance but never needed it so far.

I have a pelican hard case.. but it is way bulky... so on longer trips I use the smaller soft case and protect it with all the other crap in the trunk LOL

I guess I'm lucky also.
I just toss the recorder and my laptop in the saddle bags.
Recorder does get some proctection, it is sandwiched between my rain gear and my electric vest in the right bag. Laptop is just laid in the left bag and whatever else I take is on top of it............
Now, using the Trike, they both lay on a foam bottom, like they put under us fat arses when we is in the horse pistol bed....... They took it off the bed. asked where it was headed and they told me trash bin, told them to leave it and we took it home with us.... We got a few looks when I came out the door in a wheel chair holding that pad over my head.......
Got home, cut a pattern for the bottom of the box on the rear, Trike, and dropped it in. Little eggs are up now, will turn it over this spring. Too much stuff would fall into the valleys and hard for this old timer to get them out.

Excellent question!
We packed many different cameras, including an SLR, in the IS trunk. Each was packed in its own small case, which had a belt to strap around your waist so that we could carry it on hikes. We usually had items of clothing around them. We never had any damage to them.
