Somehow the oil filter threaded shaft has flattened threads. Can any one tell me the 20 mm thread pitch so i can buy a thread restorer?  I think it’s 2.5

The shaft threads?  Don't think I've heard of that happening.  Maybe the wrong size was twisted on previously?

Sorry to read you have a problem.  The thread size I find online is M 20 X 1.5 pitch.  This is for 15410MFJD01_HONDA filter that most dealers will provide.  But, before you get too far, a metric thread pitch gage can tell you.  You can use it on the bike or a new filter.  Lowe's used to have them in the tool epartment and they probably still do.

Replacing the part (boss) as shown in the diagram would be my first choice.  Your choice depends on how bad the threads are.

I have thread files but I also use triangular files as they are 60 degree pitch. Thread files are not as aggressive as the tri variant. If a part is available, I suggest replacing it but it's your call as a slight damage isn't going to effect the holding power of the threads. To realign/straighten the threads, take the old filter and screw on while LIGHTLY tap with a plastic mallet and working back and forth to restore thread alignment.

Thank You for all the replies.  The thread pitch is indeed 1.5 mm. $60 dollars later I cleaned up the threads with a die and the filter spins on like it should.
