As if we need any more on top of pain, expense and sudden death! Dorky looking when inflated, and very expensive. If they work they may be a good idea for the rich and paranoid. Kinda reminds me of the old East German officer's pants. https://nypost.com/2023/02/17/bizarre-airbag-jeans-save-motorcyclists-in-a-crash-for-a-hefty-price/

You don't need airbag jeans. You get in big trouble, fly off the bike like a rag doll..... you crap your pants big time. Who needs air?

I seem to recall Oss rides with an airbag vest, Hit Air brand I believe...
Interesting idea... I hope I never regret not using one...

I have had my hit air mesh jacket what seems like forever, at least 10 years
It was about 500 which is not so much more than a great leather jacket would cost
It has CE armor where it should be
Truth be told, I only have it hooked up on the tether about half the time but it is so cheap compared with one emergency room visit
When I went down in 2002 at highway speed when I hit that oil I was wearing a plain old joe rocket mesh jacket and had draggin jeans with knee armor I rode that bike home and the ins co totalled it anyways
Broken ribs are a PIA so unless the temps are under 32 I am usually wearing that jacket still when I commute into the Bronx and when I am on a xcountry ride

I don't know if they would have helped me, but I wouldn't have minded testing them Thursday. I rode the V Strom to work. My friend and I often take lunchtime rides when we both ride to work. I ended up taking a pavement dive at an intersection. We had the right of way, and some girl turned left in front of us. I was leading, and grabbed a bit too much front brake for the road condition (salt and grit in the intersection). Bike dropped immediately on the left side, and the next thing I remember is crawling onto the sidewalk to get out of the road. My buddy Billy said she stopped and asked if I needed an ambulance. He told me he said he wasn't sure yet, since it just happened. That's the last he saw of her, so apparently, she bailed. I was wearing my FF Shoei, a Tourmaster jacket, Klim gloves, but just regular uniform pants and workboots. Broken left fibia, multiple ribs on left side, and road rash on both knees. A few other bumps and bruises, but still alive!
I've been very lax in the past about gear, but it occurs to me that the only real injuries I have are where I didn't have dedicated MC safety gear on. Haven't gotten the bill from the ER yet, but that money probably would have bought some really nice gear; and I wouldn't be having the joy of using crutches with broken ribs.

Wow Ken, very sorry to hear this.
Your buddy should have at least got her plate number.
Any chance there was a camera? She should be paying your medicals. (failure to yield, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident)
Was your ride from the scene on the bike or in an ambulance?

Watched the video, what I noted was, the pants cover or protect areas that might need protection in a crash but, not the areas that were injured during my crash. Yeah, I realize every crash is slightly different but, I don't believe the foot, knee road rash I had would have been prevented, I also don't believe the upper body injuries, 14 broken bones would have been prevented by the airbag(s). Not about to suggest this isn't a good idea but as with all things, they have limitations. The only way to stay safe is to never do risky things. I prefer to enjoy life. Rams

Thanks for the kind words.
My friend picked up my bike and the broken shield (as well as the shield from my helmet) right after she asked him and he asked me if I was OK for the moment. By the time the immediacy of the situation changed, she was gone. EMS checked me at the scene. I actually walked up and out of the ambulance (amazing what adrenaline and endorphins can do) and was thinking I could ride back to work once I gathered myself up. After a few minutes sitting on the bike, I started feeling worse and worse. My friend called my wife, who brought me to the hospital. He did ride my bike back to my work and another co-worker brought him back for his bike. The police got the info and gave me a small incident report, but didn't think there were any traffic cameras that caught the incident.

Jess, I was advised after one of my incidents that if there's no contact it's almost if not impossible to get an at fault judgement. Ken, the only injuries where you weren't armored brings back memories. On one of my get-offs I scraped skin off my knees while I was carrying chaps in my bag. I'm a slow learner.

Well, that can be true.
But, if she stays and the cops come, and reconstruct the accident, and decide she failed to yield (turned out into moving traffic), that goes a long way toward proving fault. And, you never know what she might tell the cops, like.... shoot I just didn't see him and pulled out right in front of him. Which is damning.
Also, there's fault, contributory negligence, and comparative negligence (depending on jurisdictions).
You have a decent case (with a tort lawyer working on contingent fee), the insurance company will very often settle. Especially when damages like Ken's aren't life threatening (or super expensive). Now depending on how busy the local court dockets are (how long till trial), and the applicable statute of limitations, the insurance co can make you wait a long time to settle, but they will settle, rather than risk some crazy jury verdict.
But without a defendant, there's no case at all.
I have no cell phone, but if I did, I'd be out taking pics of her, her car, her plate, her leaving the scene (guilt), my bike, me, witnesses, my wristwatch (for time of day). This is one the very best uses for cell phones. Instant relevant evidence.

I would consider buying a pair of those. I'm thinking that they may be pretty hot in the summer. I'm still thinking about getting one of these: It was around $400 and is reusable. My biggest concern would be forgetting to unplug it before getting off the bike.
