Got a call last night from a mutual friend, telling me my friend George Ellison had suddenly passed. He and his wife Linda have been close friends for nearly 40 yrs., having spent many hours and days traveling & vacationing on the bikes. They retired to a golf resort outside of Franklin, NC where he enjoyed the game he loved. When I got the news, I could hardly speak for a few minutes. The heartbreak this morning was a text from his wife, Linda, telling me of his passing and saying she is "beyond despair." I can well imagine, they were married just short of 65 yrs. if memory serves. According to her, he had a massive stroke and never recovered which is probably a good thing. A person as active as he was would have been tormented by the immobility and she would have never been ablet to cope with the load placed on her.  angel

Sorry to read about your loss John.  Lifelong friends are blessings.  Remember the fun times and laughter you shared with George.

Sorry for you loss John.  I'm coming up on my 50th anniversary a long way from 65 and I just realized that only one of the grooms from my wedding is still living, my best man past 5 years ago.

Sincere condolences on the loss of your friend as well extended sympathies to his family.

There’s no shame on letting it all out and grieving for your friend.

God bless

John, Sending prayers for Linda's strength and comfort and you for the loss of such a good friend. We Live with the memories of friends and loved ones keeping them alive in our hearts. I think I'd like to go out the way George did. He had to be a great guy being married for so long plus being a golfer! The reunion that I know you believe in will be marvelous.  angel

My condolences.....

I read somewhere that the curse of a long life is watching all your friends leave before you...

I've thought of that often, even at my relatively young age, I've had to say goodbye to many already, it hasn't gotten easier.  Cry

My condolences as well.  Losing a lifelong friend is difficult.

As an ex-navy nuke, I maintain contact with some of my old shipmates.  When they leave here for their next adventure we sailors have a saying.  It goes like this.

Sailor, Rest your oar, we have the watch.

Which means your time here is finished, you have a new journey to take and we will have the watch until we join you on that journey.

Sailor Rest Your Oar is a poem by Leslie Nelson Jennings.  And again, not exactly relevant but here is a song based on the poem.   And yes, it brings tears to my eyes.

sorry for your loss.  married 65 years is nearly impossible that is a very long time.  I have 30 years age 52 so might see 60 years if lucky enough, but doubt it.

a heart attack is probably the way to go quick and somewhat painless vs suffering for years.

Here's a song I particularly like, it has a strong application to my friend's life and accomplishments. It also brings out strong emotions in me.

To everyone, thanks for the thoughts and notes of condolence. George Ellison, his wife Linda, my Rita and I, and two other couples enjoyed hundreds of miles together in the wind. George and my Rita are now gone, but life goes on so we live with the memories of the good times long past. After four years, I now have another lady love with which to make memories...and she loves riding the trike. Woohoo!  cooldude

Careful, John, some have gotten in serious trouble pursuing girls on tricycles.   Shocked
