My father-in-law picked at his skin almost constantly. Even though this comes after his death, it’s a positive in regards to those with the disease as well as those who care for them.

I know many have negative things to say regarding their in-laws and mine weren’t perfect but I’ll say this disease robbed mine of so much and just drained us all emotionally and physically exhausted us.

Anyone dealing with this you have my sympathy, support and prayers.

my mom never pulled her hair, but she was picking at her skin on her hands, never getting anything off, just something to do I guess?  Never bothered me, but yah, was a tough last 5-6 years or so dealing with all kinds of issues with alzheimers.  biggest issue I had was my mom not knowing how to tell anyone what was wrong or needed done acting like a 2 year old sometimes with no mind left not knowing anyone or able to communicate effectively to anyone.  Dealing with that was tough on me.

Memantine has been used in Alzheimer's treatment for a long time.  The point of this article was the potential treatment of Hair-Pulling and/or Skin-Picking disorders in non-Alzheimer's patients.

Alzheimer's is tough on everyone involved with the patient. My father died from it and now JoAnn is getting it. She just started taking the medicine to try and hold it off. I'm not yet sure whether thats good or bad.
