Hey Dave, would like to check out the wrench party if I have afew hrs. sat. I have some flapper wheels for polishing your intakes if anyone wants some/ if you ever need to replace the intake orings.One of mine was leaking alittle so I replaced them and polished out the intakes.Gets better mileage and way way faster!! Not....but was a pretty neat project since they were off anyway....=They are really rough castings like it says in shop talk..plus and you can see the glass packs I did again!! If I can get over Ill bring a bag of the flappers.Paul Haslet TX.

Joe and I will both be there.  Need to replace the petcock, vacuum lines, vacuum caps on his bike, vacuum caps on mine.  I have the petcock/screen, 5/32 vacuum line and 1/8 caps.  Just need the great wisdom of our VRCC brothers to show me how to do this. L

I was suppose to be off this Saturday, but another supervisor just put in for vacation at the last minute and they want me to cover for him this Saturday. They are not giving me an option, so I'll have to miss the wrench party. I have had to miss quite a few of the W/P because of work and it's starting to get old real quick. Maybe next time. Keep the sync guages handy.

Notes to everyone who intends to work on petcock/screen, air filter, vacuum lines: 

It's much easier to remove a fuel tank that is hovering near reserve than one that was topped off on the way to the party.   Wink

It's also nice to have a soft towel to set the tank on while it or it's host is being serviced.   cooldude

Chuck,

I've only been through this once, but I suspect removing and replacing the air box is not as difficult as doing the pair valve vacuum lines without removing the air box. 

The pointers Patron gave me for making the air box portion as painless as possible are 1) when you loosen the clamps on the tops of the carbs, place the clamps above their normal location on the boot and tighten them just enough to keep them from falling off the boots when you don't want them to, and 2) to make replacing the boots on top of the carbs as easy as possible, apply a light smear of silicone grease to the inside of the boot.

Yes, it is possible; however, it is much easier if you pull the air box.

I've had the airbox off a couple of times already.  The easiest way I have found to get it back on is to warm the tubes with a heater and then wrap a string tightly around all of the air tubes and tie them as scrunched up as possible.  The airbox will fit back into the frame much easier and then just cut the string and start fighting the tubes back into place.  

I tied strings onto the pair valve vacuum hoses where they connect to the manifolds and pulled the hoses out of the top of the frame.  I then tied the strings to the new hoses and gently pulled them back down the same way they came out.  It was pretty easy to do.  The entire job was made easier by stopping by Harbor Freight and buying two 10" hemostat's on the way home last night.  The hemostats were the only way I could change the left front vacuum cap.

My petcock appeared fine and I could find no visible damage to the diaphragm but I know it had issues since it wouldn't hold a vacuum when Charles was adjusting the carb’s a few months back.  The hardest part here was getting the filter tube out of the tank; it was stuck pretty good and required working some pliers in enough to get a grip on it.  After I get done mounting some LED’s and routing the wires she’ll start going back together tonight.

I can't imagine doing all of this work in the confines of a wrench party but maybe having extra hands would make it all happen much faster.

If Frisco is on the way for anyone, BnB Tom and I are going to meet at the Market Street grocery store (NW quadrant of Eldorado & Tollway) at 7:00am.  They have breakfast sandwiches, mean burritos, and a coffee bar with baked goodies.

My understanding is that there is one part, perhaps the diaphram, that you can get in backwards really, Really,REALLY easy and that is no better than a busted diaphram.

OK, I figured out what I did wrong with my petcock;  tickedoff I had all of the rubber pieces in the correct order but the seal wouldn't contact the body of the petcock.  The first person that posts what I did wrong wins the right to point and laugh the next time we're together.   2funny

you have to be really careful to seat the diaphragm, jim and dave did the same thing when we did one at my place, bit of a nib that had to be pushed in
