So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: March 10, 2023, 05:25:20 AM »

Probably not the right forum to ask this but, I've got a Procyon lotor problem.   So, I'm gonna ask here anyway.

The wife (or has me do it) feeds the deer.   I don't mind but, things are getting out of hand.

A local gang of Procyon lotors is taking advantage of my wife's love of most natural things and are eating the deer corn.   I'd like to re-locate these thieves.

No, shooting the masked thieves will not be agreed to, someone that lives here does not agree with capital punishment for corn theft (while I have no issues with that).    But, as most country folks know, once those Procyon lotors take up residence, all kinds of things happen.  I guess I'm asking if anyone knows of a good Procyon lotor trap.   Capture and relocation is the idea answer, although I'm open to execution, my other half is not fond of that answer.   Almost any suggestions will be considered.

The Have a Heart (style) live traps allow you to relocate animals (not just over the hill).  Peanut butter is best bait, gob it on, it smells good.

Just be sure to buy the larger size for raccoons.  https://www.havahart.com/store/animal-traps?wcs_features=685

Warning, some of these traps will open the doors if they get tipped sideways or on end (gravity), so a small pair of needlenose vice grips on each door after you've caught anything is a good practice.  (I had a squirrel jump out and climb up my face once.)  Put them in the truck and cover the trap with a cloth to keep the animal more calm.

During her residence here, the wife COPIOUSLY fed the birds.  And I had rats, mice (in the bikes and machinery), coons, possums, skunks, feral cats, fox, and hawks and birds of prey on the property.  Rabies was always a legitimate concern.

When she left, all feeding of any kind ended, and I have not had any of these pests on my property since.

Stop feeding all wildlife.  You can relocate a dozen coons, and a dozen more will take their place.

This trap is too small.  Also, it is very common for a coon to try and dig his way out of your trap, and many seriously injured their paws, and ripped out numerous nails (with blood) in the many hours before you discover them in the trap.  See where this one is digging?

Hmm, I guess that depends on how "Woke" one is.

Where I was reared, we always referred to these masked four-legged bandits as coons.
So as to not offend any of our "Woke" friends, changes have been made.   Roll Eyes

In HS football, our kicker's was named Chris Kuhn.

We had an all white school.

One game, with a team of blacks and whites, we were yelling for Chris to kick a field goal.  Come-on Kuhn!.

The ref came over all pissed off and told us if we didn't stop calling those guys (on the other team) coons, he was going to flag us for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The coach told him our kicker's name was Kuhn, but he wasn't buying it.  We didn't have enough money to have our names on our game jerseys.

At halftime, Chris showed him his ID.

OK, but you guys call him Chris, not Kuhn.  Come-on Chris!

Poor guy could not kick a field goal to save his life.   Grin  Fourth and long was a better bet than any field goal attempt.

We had a kid on our team whose last name was Blakey...pronounced Blackie. First name...Joe. So, when the game announcer would call his name during a great play or when a substitution, it was always "Joe Blakey" which always sounded racist to visiting schools. We finally got the guy on the mic to just call him "Joe" but took the school principle to order him to change. Announcer was a real bone-head.

Years ago, my aviation call sign was Blackie 21 until I became a Commander then, it was Blackie 06.
That is still on my helmet.

Well, initially, the title said "Coon" but, John pointed out that it might be offensive to someone so, myself not wanting to offend anyone changed it to the official nomenclature.

Hopefully I'll have that thief caught and re-located by the time Spring Fling hits.  Wink

As I've said before, when a thread is locked we don't revive the subject in a new thread.

The conversation degraded to a pissing contest.  That's the most common reason a thread id locked.

Don't make more work for me.
