I have noticed that the numbers of motorcycles on the road are declining.  I rode 185 miles this morning mostly back roads but I did go thru small towns....Brenham, Industry, Sealy, Navasota, Round Top, Burton, Bellville.   (All Texas towns), in very scenic areas and I did not see a single motorcycle on the road.  Saw a few parked in places but not one on the hyway or road.   Dont understand it.

Could the riders have actual jobs?   Grin

There are loads of motorcycles in my area, but you definitely see more on weekends.

Unfortunately, the traffic never stops.... until you get out in horse country.  Which is only an hour for me.

I saw a couple of motorcycles in the rush hour rain this morning in Austin.  And there always seems to be plenty of bikes out in the Hill Country.

Austin is a motorcycle friendly town.  Designated "motorcycle only" parking in certain areas and metered street parking is always free for motorcycles and scooters.

When I worked in DC, many (and my) federal buildings had bike parking right out front for a quarter an hour (best deal in town).  To park your car somewhere (and then hike to work) might be $3-5K a year.  But consistently riding in DC was a bit of a death wish.  What with the terrible traffic and potholes, and worst of all the DC International Cab Drivers Association.  Ten thousand guys who shared one driver's license, and were terrible drivers who never used the brakes, only the horn.  I worked with a guy (computer fixer dude) that rode daily and he was hit and knocked off his bike three years in a row.  And the exit off the meandering GW Parkway at 35mph up onto the I-395 bridge across the Potomac into DC (70MPH traffic) had a very short ramp and was really exciting and scary (even with Valkyrie power).

Thus my 18 year saga of riding the Metro train.   crazy2

I am reading your post from April 20.  It is now May 8. You will see more motorcyles  as the weather warms up. I guarantee it.

In Big D -now the metromess is the 3rd largest area in the nation-the traffic volume has made dang near every road overloaded with irritated drivers of course playing on the cell phone..I live on the  far eastern border with a 4 lane being converted to an 8 lane. Saturday and Sunday mornings aren't too bad heading out east aways-just get back before 10 am. My new $100k Corvette had the AC compressor lock up and it is a 3 month wait for a new one crazy2. Since everyday is over 110 degrees the 2001 GMC 1/2 ton is the new/old daily driver.  All 4 street bikes are all fixed up and running well-the Indian Cheiftain is the favorite if going very far-the cruise control is priceless and the electronicly adjustable windshield is great..2 more weeks and it may cool off enuff  for an Akansas/Springfield run to look at some inherited properties....for a quick blast the modded Valkyrie is still up there-just wear the best earplugs you can find 2funny
