Most of the chrome has flaked and peeled of my altnator cover. Is there a chrome paint that really looks like chrome? Or at least close.

When mine goes to junk it will be time to make a vented stainless steel version.

I don't know if they can powder coat a plastic alt cover, but they might. Chrome looking powdercoat is out there, but I have read it does not stand up as well as other colors. Here you go: https://www.wrightcoating.com/specialty-coatings/coatings/plastic-powder-coatingGoing back many years I remember people calling silver paint Mexican chrome. (That's not racist since Mexican is not a race, but I suppose it's ethnocentricly impolite)

I haven't heard that since the early 70's. My hot rod buddy used to say stuff like that all the time. He spent several years in New Mexico.

Sad part is Megazip doesn't sell them cheap anymore as they caught up with the rest of the vendors just in the past 2 months. Also the post 99' driver's pad is "not available" in this same time frame.

Yeah, was going to buy an alternator cover but put it off a couple of weeks and the price jumped from $85 to over $200!
All for a small piece of plastic. I'll just leave my alternator naked thank you.

(That's not racist since Mexican is not a race, but I suppose it's ethnocentricly impolite) I do a little bit of powdercoating , built my own oven out of an old food warming cabinet by adding an upper and lower houshold oven heating element and a digital thermostat. I have a Harbor Freight powdercoat gun and the results are awesome !! I have found a product called Super Chrome Plus from Prismatic powders that looks exactly like chrome . I powdercoated my boat trailer rims with it and my son-in-law swore I sent them off and had them chrome plated.Powdercoating is a lot easier than you think. You just attach a wire lead to the metallic part you are coating and dust it on , because of the electrostatic process , it basically "sucks "to the part , almost magnetically . Then you bake it in an ove (some even use a household oven or toaster oven) ususally around 350 to 400 degrees for 10-20 minutes (depending on the coating you are using) when it cools , you're finished . It is so easy and the results are so fantastic that it almost becomes addictive , you start "looking" for things to powdercoat..haha. That being said , you cannot powdercoat plastic beacause of the high temperature that you have to bake it at to get the coating to melt . Pretty sure it would destroy a side cover.

At the price of those alternator covers , it looks like i'm sitting on a couple thousand dollars. I just need to find the right patsy. The powder coater I use can not do the plastic because of the heat. A while back (?) there was a piece that Jay Leno was in that involved a chrome finish that was cold (?) applied. da prez

They lied. The paint does not match the cap.

Don't leave it naked. Strip off the chrome and paint it to match your bike. I would leave the "Honda" in chrome if that part is intact.

As per Willow's suggestion, I painted it to match the bike. I found Autozone Dupli-Color Royal Blue spray paint a good match.

Have you tried buffing it out?

You have nothing to lose...... Clean it up, and paint it with some silver "Hammer Paint"??? It would certainly look different, and be durable.......and would blend in just fine? If nothing else.....(if anyone even NOTICES it!!!).....it could be a conversation starter!!

brightest chrome paint I ever used was Zynolyte super chrome epoxy chrome finish. sadly it was discontinued a few yrs ago, although some places still have it in stock. VHT is still selling a chrome epoxy finish https://www.vhtpaint.com/specialty/vht-plate-finish
