I love the Interstate, but the fairing does leave much to be desired.  I'm not sure if mine had been removed and reinstalled previously, but on rough bumpy roads that fairing has an obnoxious rattle.  It's ok on smooth highways. I've taken the front panels off, made sure the wiring is routed tightly, redone some of the OEM mounts that were slipping, etc., but it is still not as solid as I'd like.  When looking at the headlight, I'm seeing that there is a small gap around glass with no seal to keep rain and small insects from slipping through.  Is this normal?  I've even considered trying to Jerry rig some of automotive windshield or other rubber seal to seal it up a bit more.  Also, the speaker panels won't attach to the mid section tightly, leaving a small (maybe 1/8") gap on both sides when looking at it from the seat.  I'm wondering if it could be related to the taller Clear View windshield I'm using?  Anyone else had this issue?

I thought I'd seen a post years ago where someone took the whole fairing apart and reinstalled it "tighter" with better hardware and some soundproofing material, but I can't seem to find it now.  I sure would like to get that fairing feeling "solid" and making less noise.

You know only 4 bolts hold the fairing on. I have stock height W/S but it has those side wings. Got that same gap around headlights and when I roll the fairing I have my share of bug dead bodies. My has not rattled and even at a buck 35 was solid as a rock. Wish I were of more help to ya. RIDE SAFE.

I still have the stock shield, but my 6'2" is comprised of a long torso and shorter legs.  The taller windshield fits me perfectly.

I found this post, unfortunately the article Hellcat had linked is missing somewhere in the void.  Still some good info. and a starting point for me.

Wow.  Many thanks!  Some good info there, saved to PDF.  Maybe this could be pasted into Shoptalk on the main page?  I'll pm the powers that be and ask.

I knew those noises werent all in my head!   Wink

I've been looking for that page for years. John did a good job on the fairing as it is still whisper quiet. That bike resides in my garage after a friend bought it in  St George Utah many years ago and I bought it from him.

Thanks again Bagger    cooldude cooldude

After 2 years of ridding, I finally found where my IS front noise was coming from.

The missing and broken fender bolts.

It isn't really hard to disassemble the front fairing. Easier with 2 pairs of hands.

This helps a little to deaden somewhat the movement/rattle.  I got some black pipe wrap foam insulation and put two 2 inch cuts around the handlebars upfront where the fairing is VERY close to the handlebars in the middle/down low.  I do not notice it there since sort of hidden and seems to help a tad.
