There is no Facebook version of this board.  There are Facebook pages managed by the VRCC and/or VRCC members but they are not a version of this board.

Ultimately, Facebook participation by VRCC members will result in the abandonment and ultimate death of this (these) board(s).

I am not sure why anyone would spend any/much time there, it seems to be a just a random stream of posts that scroll out into oblivion.....

I frequent both Facebook and here daily and I post here much more than on Facebook and my experience tells me that the  abandonment and death of this board, were that to happen, will have reasons well outside of Facebook.

Apparently your experience differs from mine.  Yes, there will be other factors but FB will be the driver.  I won't argue the point; I simply state what is the case.

I probably visit this page 100 times for every time that I visit one of the FB pages.

I have a FB account but I rarely use it.

IMHO  face book, twitter, and all other social media BS will not only be the end of this board, but the end of all.

It's all about perspective, not just experience.

I finally joined FB a few years ago, simply to advertise the Spring Fling I used to host.   I also joined MeWe and a few other venues.    While I did and do go to FB, I would much rather interact on this board, it's a shame that the only way to contact some of my "friends" is through FB and not this board.    I'm trying to whittle down my internet exposure, the world does not need to know everything about me and what I'm doing or have done, I'm not all that interesting anyway but, the more the world knows, the more it can use against me and you.

I've made enough mistakes in my life, advertising them on FB or here is not in my best interests.  Wink

I'm a member of FB and here. I often make referrals to VRCC for additional info. FB folks are definitely more naive but there isn't hardly any discourse with these folks. Very appreciative.

Have any of you considered what it will be like once this board dies? You get up and grab your first cup of coffee open up your devise and click on your VRCC icon and ——————————————————-

Will you have to go to Facebook to find out what happened? Strange times these we live in.

The question then becomes, why?   What are the reasons this board would die?

And, given those reasons, what actions can those who wish to keep this board active take?

There are 2 main reasons I see people leaving this board for face book: 1) Political posts and arguments/differences of opinion.  2) The ease of posting Photos and Videos on FB.

I frequent both, but this is my go to, even if it is a pain to post pics.  I try to refrain from posting on FB.

I have no plans to leave here for Facebook.

As for posting pictures and videos, Posting pictures here is easy once you get the other platform up and running.  https://postimg.cc

Posting videos, just requires a link to YouTube or Rumble.  I also use dropbox because both YouTube and Rumble throttle the video quality and you are limited to audio options (I add music to some of my videos).

This is a great old school board.  Kinda reminds me of the old DOS based chat boards.  Is it high tech?  Nope.  But it's the original, and ya don't have to worry so much about your data being mined here.

As far as political posts goes, it seems that the new format is working as intended.  Avoid the PaM board, and you avoid the political stuff.

Where is DDT?  I hope he didn't succumb to the Facebook temptation.  His stories were great as were Strider's, among others.  They embodied what we all love about riding these old machines across this great land,  and meeting good people along the way.

The why, I had always thought was participation, or the lack thereof. I remember when the first page was always dominated by that days posts. Now the first page is filled with several days worth of posts. I have no real insight if that is even a determining factor or not. Is it because the Valkyrie had a limited production run and people move on to other interests and new owners of old machines like ours have difficulty “finding us”? Maybe we are our own worst enemy?

I texted with him a few days ago.

He assured me that he is doing well.

He's out on an adventure and his computer is on the fritz.

I got to listen in on one side of DDT’s preparations for this trip and it sounded epic. Barring unseen circumstances it was going to be an extended foray that could last months! Anyway, wish I could have went along.

I'd say that most of us being of older age and less incoming younger riders is the reason of decline. Social media is the way folks communicate now days. Posting on FB about our existence isn't a foul that I know of.

The actual VRCC FB page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/valkyrieriderscruiserclub.

We gave in to FB, bc it reaches so many more people.  However, when we post announcements, we will always post here first, then the above FB page, followed by sharing to the many other Valkyrie pages.

We've been losing the battle with FB for quite some time.  However, part of the reason for less posts on the general board, is the creation of the PaM board.  That was always my main fear of starting a political board, so I'm not surprised.  Funny thing though... some of the frequenters of the PaM board wind up posting things there that are more appropriate for the general board.

IMHO, the biggest reasons people move to FB:
1)  Ease of use (it's more phone friendly than this site).
2)  Ease of posting pics (in today's world of instant gratification, the 2 step process is too cumbersome for some).
3)  Wider audience (with FB, most of one's friends and family are there).

Could we fix these issues?  The first 2, perhaps, but it would be costly, and we don't have Zuckerberg's deep pockets.

Of course, FB isn't the only issue.  There is the declining population of Valkyries, the aging of our members, etc, etc.  We pretty much chased off a potential pool of new members when the '14/'15 models came out.  I am concerned for the VRCC survival.
