Here in Tomball Tx we have a lot of crawfish in the ground. They are not eating size and are a different species from the Louisiana red crawfish that you eat. Anyways....they only come above ground after a hard rain with running water. This afternoon we got a 2" rain in about 30 minutes. Ground was covered with water and ditches full . All conditions go I called the 12 yr old boy across the street and we got our heavy gloves and 5 gallon buckets and we caught 206 crawfish in about an hr. Its just amazing. And it aint even dark yet. More will come out after dark.....I'll be back out there in a while.

I went back out at 9:00 pm with my headlight and ran todays total up to 352 crawfish in 1 day. My all time record. No wonder I am having slab problems.

No bait needed. When there is a layer of water across the ground they come out of their holes and just start crawling across the ground. They are all over the place. I dont know but suspect they have depleated their current food source and are moving to a new location...or breeding season???? Only occurs the first major rain in the spring after the ground starts warming up.
Last year over several days I caught over 600 crawfish.
These are not edible. The internet says they can carry a harmful bacteria if eaten. They are about 1-2" long and brown. I have used them as fish bait but not real successfully.

I have used them as fish bait but not real successfully.
Yeah, I was wondering if the reason you caught them was to use for bait. If it doesn't go Mooooo, I'm not interested in eating it.  Rams  |

OK, I'm still in the dark as to why you catch them. You can't eat them and they don't make good fish bait.  Why am I feeling like I'm being suckered in here on something?  Rams |

I took some leftover bait shrimp freshwater fishing once and the Smallmouth Bass went crazy over them.
Later in the day when they began to stink the catfish loved them.
I assumed that both thought they were crawdads.

Rams i catch them to get rid of them as they build large mounds on top of the ground all over all year long....and it is kind of fun .jpg) |

The year I got out of the service I lived with my in-laws right on the Mississippi river. That year the river was very low. I would go out in the morning in the shallows and turn over rocks and pick up crawfish. Then I'd go stand upstream from a set of rapids and dangle the crawfish on a hook and haul in small mouth bass like crazy. I'm smiling just remembering that.
