Howdy Gang,

So, I hydro-locked my engine last season and I'm just getting around to fixing it this year. I stripped teeth on the starter idle and drive gears; I need to replace those. I got the engine off the bike last night, but I have to hold off on cracking open the engine until I get a clutch gasket because I forgot it and only got the rear case gasket (I'm working outside so I want to open and close in one day).

I plan on doing the timing belt and alternator brushes & rubber; is there anything else I should take advantage of while I have the engine off?  Also, am I missing anything for this job? I looked through the manual, but maybe I'm missing something. I have the 2 gears, rear gasket with clutch on the way, starter motor O- ring, and the 12 point 46mm deep socket and a 32mm socket. I'll also get a new petcock, since I believe that started this whole nightmare.

Thanks.

Check out the rear case cover where the little shaft bosses are. I acquired a Vaikyrie  that had been hydro locked and beside damaged gears the rear cover damaged. I found a good  low mileage engine and that solved my problem. Hopefully your repair goes well.

Yes, I'll look into that too. Looks like redeye doesn't sell the carb set any longer?

I'll be sure to take a look at that,  and thank you.

Can't have a hydro lock with out two problems, the petcock leaking and floats not shutting off.

I would replace all the floats.

Consider a desmog while the engine is out, that's the easiest time to do it if you are going too. That choice is yours.

Hats off to you sir, that is some extra effort with that rigging you did to suspend the bike, I believe most would have given up saying they cant do it outside. Much respect.

I didn't even see that when I read the post earlier. There's a wooden tripod suspending the bike!

Thanks. I'm not much of a carpenter, but it worked!

Agree, that is some amazing redneck engineering.  I am really impressed how you got it apart, of course I would never ever get that back together again!

the problem is the carb bowl vent lines not installed correctly or they have blockage to atmosphere.

Just to clarify, it is the float bowl needle valves that are worn out and not sealing. The floats are probably good. I have only replaced a float because it was embrittled and the plastic slot for the float bowl needle cracked.

I recommend getting OEM float bowl needles or K&L 18-8955.

I wish you the best for your project. I always appreciate someone saving one of these bikes.
