Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: May 22, 2023, 05:27:47 AM »

Howdy, Folks…

I’m just checking in… A couple of reasons for my recent absence, but nothing health related or otherwise serious. Mostly I’ve been wondering about some stuff and spending time pondering things I couldn’t figure out how to write about. When in doubt, I engage heavily in wind therapy to clear the cobwebs and sharpen my focus. It’s worked again! However… that isn’t all…

The other more obvious reason for my recent absence is simply that my laptop had been on the Fritz. A keyboard issue had resulted in making even simple entries on my daily calendar a major challenge… Time for some action! At first, I thought we’d return to Ocala and have a fix made at the repair shop my SIL uses and had steered me to a few months ago. However…

While I happened to be at Trout Dude’s place for another reason, I offhandedly mentioned this ailment to him. Well, he has a friend… He’s like that, ya know! If he can’t tackle a problem himself, he always knows somebody reliable who can! Well, he saved me a trip back to central Florida during ‘Love-bug season’ and those unpleasant ever-climbing late Spring temps.

By the way, while we were at Trout Dude’s, he and Shelia provided our girl with her latest adornments! Shelia had a couple of decals made and Dennis installed them…

Since he and Waterbug were planning to visit her sister in upstate South Carolina soon, we agreed he’d bring my laptop with him, and I’d get it back from him up there. Great plan, simple and straightforward too, but… you know how plans, even those well thought-out and carefully set in motion, can explode in an instant! My good friends had to abandon for now their visit up yonder…

I returned to Dennis’s place after all and reclaimed my ‘window on the world’! (Brief interludes like this serve us well by reminding us of just how dependent upon these new-fangled devices we can become!) I had another doctor visit in Montgomery coming up in little more than a week, but nowhere in particular to go during this coincident period of very volatile weather…

I chose to ride back to Ocala and hunker down… Funny, to avoid going there I’d ridden a couple of thousand miles through several states dodging rain (not always successfully) and enduring above average seasonal temperatures… only to wind up in Ocala anyway… At least by doing things this way, we didn’t run into many Love-bugs!

I’m thinking it’s time for a tablet. Lighter, less luggage space used unless you’re using a $2500 laptop. I think a tablet can do anything a computer can …. I think.

Perfect!  The "12" kinda exposes ALI's inner speed racer, but we know you're taking it all in and stopping to smell the roses along the way!  Remember to give her an occasional throttle goose, old girls still like an unbridled romp every so often.   coolsmiley

Great seeing you back!   cooldude

You know, on reflection, I’m wondering if that decal is a ploy. I wonder if a certain percentage of nearsighted young ladies might mistake the quotation marks as the inch mark ? Could you be luring them in conversation about the subject ?

Keith,

It means different things to different folks... (See Rob's reply below, for example!) Quite simply it was a move on my part to lessen the angst of my riding partners... See, I was forever blurting out "I just love my life!" and/or "I'm mighty proud to be here!"

On a ride with RNFWP once upon a time, I decided to just say "1" for my first statement instead of the whole sentence, and "2" instead of the second. Later I just started saying "12" to include both. This avoids continual repetition and tedium in deference to my companions. On the other hand, since both statements are entirely accurate, it also allows this inarticulate rider to still proclaim his joy!

Yeah, too bad about our timing being out of sync the last couple of times! We'll get it right again one of these days, though, and I'll look forward to sitting on a stool at Jan's and swapping yarns with ya! BTW, I'll be there again next week...

Terry,

No doubt about it, my friend! I've noticed several riders using those, and the 'space' benefit alone makes them a much more suitable tool for scooterizing than a bulky laptop. Alas, I'm still hopelessly hooked on a traditional keyboard, so I have no plans to change anytime soon... The logic for change is obvious, the ability to kick old habits, at least in my case, is equally obvious...

It's looking like we may need to do another 'WhatsApp' conference soon... Between your fires up there and a couple of surprises down here, the scales may be beginning to tilt in the wrong direction now...

Rob,

Thanks, my friend! It's been... ummm... different not being on the board! It did give me time to take stock of how much I've grown to depend on the cyber link to my world, and especially to stay in contact with my friends! I can't say I was lonely, but I surely did feel isolated/cutoff! Yeah, Dennis and Shelia did us proud with those decals!!!

Don,

Thanks, my friend! I hope you're able to experience the "12" too... You seem to have progressed out of your version of our common experience better than I have, so if you aren't sensing a "12", then you need to rethink things! I appreciate you chiming in... Always reassuring to know you're still out there kicking and screaming... and defying the odds! Yep, see ya down the road for sure!

Seth,

Great to be back! I do admit to being a tad homesick during my absence... Oh, you know how it is... Yes, the throttle does receive an enthusiastic twist now and then! Not like the 'good ole days' of course, but once in a while an involuntary urge simply takes over! Like you, I've discovered the truth to that old saying: "Growing old is unavoidable, growing up is optional!" I hope all is well in the high country...

Ross,

Yep, my friends did us proud with that little addition! I've even had some curious questions regarding that from non-riders... a real conversation starter for sure... It was with you that all of that began, so thanks for the inspiration! Yep, we've been riding the crest of a "12" wave hither and yon, making smiles and miles together... combined with the knowledge all of that will continue in a few more days! Say, you wouldn't be interested in another coddiewomple any time soon, would ya?

Rob,

Nope, nothing to do with anything like that... OK, I have been known to 'embellish' things a bit when it came to encouraging the ladies to take a chance on this non-catch... However, not in this case. I'm simply exclaiming my sincere exaltation and jubilation at doing what we do the way we do it!

We took a very brief unplanned swing through New Mexico not long ago... I did think seriously of contacting you, but ... Alas, I didn't. We still need to sip a few together again sometime, though... Perhaps I can shoot for another record! Are you already headed for the serious north country?

Rob,

Safe travel, my friend! Will your party consist of the same folks as last year? If so, please tell them and especially Braydon I said hi, and that I hope to share some wind with him again, too.

I'm hearing dire things about northern Alberta... Y'all planning on going up through B.C. this time and taking the Cassier Highway? I hope things go well for y'all... I suppose the cabin was pretty much completed last year, so I do hope this year can be a time of fun and contemplation for ya...

I'll keep your offer of 'coaching' in mind!  cooldude Wouldn't that be a hoot... Our first brew together was on the Kenai, then the setting of a new personal post surgery best to be set up there too! Now that, I believe, would make a good story!  cheers

If your wandering should bring you to Colorado, please give me a call.

Terry,

Nuff said! I need to get out more, or at least do a better job of keeping up with what all is available! That thing appears to be ideal for my needs... Since I've already spent the money, I'll wait until 'next time', but I will definitely do some shopping before any more repairs! Thanks for the heads up... Things are happening down this way... we may need to chat...

DDT (12)

Janice,

Thanks, my friend! It's good to be back. I'll keep your suggestion in mind... As you probably suspected, I have no idea at all what might come next. Heck, even the major quasi plan I'd been working on has taken an unexpected turn, so who knows? Dang, I might even show up at IZ after all; an outcome nowhere to be found on my list of possibilities only a week ago! Whenever or wherever our eventual next meeting occurs, though, it'll be good to hang with you again!!!

Bruce,
It’s always good to hear from you!  Good to know that you are now reconnected to the world!

If all goes well, when I get done feathering the nest, maybe we can share another coddiewomple.
