Harvard Medical School morgue human-remains trafficking scheme leads to arrests in 4 states

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/harvard-medical-school-morgue-human-remains-trafficking-scheme-leads-to-arrests-in-4-states/ar-AA1cyI04

A group of people have been arrested and face federal charges in a scheme in which federal prosecutors accuse them of buying and selling human body parts stolen from Harvard Medical School's morgue and an Arkansas mortuary.

Most of the body parts were taken from cadavers donated for medical research, but federal prosecutors also noted two instances in which parts were taken from the corpses of two stillborn babies at a morgue in Little Rock, Arkansas, according to a Wednesday media release.

“Some crimes defy understanding,” United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam said in a written statement. “The theft and trafficking of human remains strikes at the very essence of what makes us human. It is particularly egregious that so many of the victims here volunteered to allow their remains to be used to educate medical professionals and advance the interests of science and healing. For them and their families to be taken advantage of in the name of profit is appalling."

Harvard morgue's manager accused of selling parts from donated cadavers
Cedric Lodge, 55, who managed Harvard's morgue for the medical school's program for anatomical donations, is among those charged in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in a federal indictment released Wednesday.

As I said, there are some really sick people in this world.   One buyer (a female) visited the morgue to pick out the bodies she wanted skin from so she could make dolls and purses.   There's a lot more in the article, just didn't wish to post all the details.

Edited:  It has been brought to my attention that the article does not mention the skinning of human corpses for their hide so the lady could make dolls and purses.   That information came from Fox News this morning.

While I whole heartedly agree that parting out a "perfectly functional Valkyrie" is wrong, the article is about a whole different kind of sick.

My mom has told a story often about her time at West VA U (Morgantown, late 40s).

The school was proud of it's medical school, and made an opratory theater open to visitors.

So the med students are working on a cadaver with a full house, and one of them has put a bag of chipped ham down in the cadaver, and proceeds to eat handfuls of it from the cadaver.

Laughter from the students:  shock, vomitus, and running from the visitors.

U officials, anxious for donations from alumni, insisted there would be no more eating from the cadavers.  2funny

Selling human body parts is not funny, or decent.  Or lawful.

The parts available at the grocery store are all anyone needs.

Apparently, the story has either changed or become more factual.   The dude with the tattoed face is the one buying the human hyde.

He wanted to make leather.  No harm, no foul.   crazy2

Made me think of the Indian tobacco pouches.  Parts is parts, and they never let a part go to waste.
Sometimes the warriors used choice parts of their enemies to make useful novelty items.  Main difference, they were warriors, not freaks of nature.
