Well, they wouldn't take the last drain out, but they put a smaller version in, leaving it just a little longer just in case, currently scheduled, if all goes well, to be removed on my birthday (12/11)...

I've never wanted one more!

Saw my infectious disease doctor today, Dr. Spak, probably mentioned him before, fascinating dude. (Pronounced Dr. Spock). Since no one doctor was taking "ownership" of me through this, he's sort of stepped up and done so. (Says the surgeons are good at saving your life on the operating table, but then just kinda wash their hands of you and don't follow-up very well...)

Looked at my most recent labs, the CT scan, that the big drain is gone and the little drain hopefully coming out next Monday, and also just physically looking at me, talking to me and checking a few physical things in person and declared "Well, you're basically healed at this point."

Wants to see me one last time (Hopefully) in February just to make sure.

Also got my back to work sign offs, both from medical, disability insurance, and my employer, looks like I'll be off the dole and back working again Monday the 18th.

...I'm actually kinda looking forward to getting back to work at this point!

Oh! And I picked Serk Jr. up from school today. Got a few funny looks in the parent pick up line at his middle school. He had no idea the mode of transport he was being picked up on, and got several "Woah! You get to go home on THAT!?!?" comments from his co-horts...

Edit to add - almost forgot! After tomorrow I'm off all antibiotics... I've been on some form of antibiotic, either IV or oral, non stop since early August...

Thats a long time on antibiotics, get some good quality creamy (whole milk none of nonfat unsweetened crap) yogurt.  Your gut bacteria will have great gratitude for your intestinal fortitude!   Wink

I'm glad you finally got thru this situation. I didn't comment thru this because of personal experience within the family wasn't good one. I myself had mine removed w/o any complications but I was discovered being type II at this time. I'm so glad you are back on your feet. God Bless!

Before all the health adventures, my last day of work was 7/29/2023.  (The day I went to the ER at Baylor Rowlett in the middle of an outage for work.)

Today is my first day back.

Health (non) update:

I've had a few folks reach out to me asking how I'm doing, so figured an update was in order. It's now been one month since the last drain tube was (FINALLY!) removed, so how am I?

...mostly fine I guess. I still have once or twice a day brief pains where the biggest drain was, the scars are pretty gnarly, I'm about 90% on getting my strength and endurance back, but I'm living life, working, playing with the kids, riding my motorcycles etc...

There's still some mental stuff going on (I REALLY don't like going to hospitals, and unfortunately I've had cause to go to a few of them lately for friends and family) but with time that will fade I suspect, or at least lessen. (Well, who really likes going to hospitals though?)

On the plus side, this wasn't the easiest way to lose 50 pounds, but I'll take it I 'spose...

Thanks again to Tarynn for her ongoing help and support through this and life in general!

One final... I hope... update on this saga...

The gallbladder removal surgery that kicked this all off was 6 months ago as of last week...

I saw the final doctor involved with this adventures, Dr. Spak my infectious disease doctor, today and he released me, gave me a clean(ish) bill of health, basically, medically, that whole thing is now..... over.

I was almost sad he didn't tell me to:

Of all the times I went to the big downtown Baylor hospital, this was the first time I went on my own (Spousal unit in class to become a nurse). And yes I rode.

I even tried to pay for parking, the thing wouldn't read my ticket, tried calling for help but was told I should try another gate. Did some quick mental calculations of the gap from the end of the gate to the curb and the width of my 'Wing, and just rode on out...

Thanks again for all the support, letters, cards, prayers, etc helping us get through this!

Thanks for the good news.   cooldude

They say living though these kind of things makes us stronger.

I suppose that's true, but I could still do without serious (or even minor) medical issues, complications, abnormal lab results, growths, yada.   I'm strong enough without the excitement.   tickedoff

5 hour surgery successful.  In room resting.  Details later.  Thank you all, good to have friends.

Had to extend bed.

They probably won't let you do it so:  I will break out the bourbon and a good cigar for you this evening.
I Know, it tough, but somebody has to do it.

Heh, the surgery was over a year ago, I just necro'ed this thread to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of having the last tube removed...

I'm allowed beverages at will now... And with three 13 year olds in the house, that comes in handy! In fact, think I'll go have a celebratory beverage now!

glad u are on the mend finally and to loose 50lbs as well you look very skinny, that is also a good thing, not sure I could endure that much time in the hospital though even if I lost 50lbs.   I spent 4 days in hospital now near 2 years ago 1st time ever,  and 1st 2 days was fine, but 3rd say wanted outta there and drove me batty to stay a 3rd night.

I just got done with my 2nd hip replacement surgery 1 week ago now, and still using old man walker vs crutches or cane, but one thing different than you and me is you wanted to go back into work, where as I never want to go back EVER come 2025.  found out yesterday 1 of my 4 coworkers come March wants out of our piddly pay dept. and got a transfer to another dept. while the other coworker got moved 5 of the 8 hours per day to another close dept. we work with leaving just 2 of 4 full timers in my dept. to work which is also BS.  To go from 4 to 2.5 people is BS, hope they hire someone in January 2025 job is posted already as of yesterday externally, but will see?  I quit my last job because my boss was an ahole, pay totally sucked, and 1 of our 3 coworkers quit 2 months prior cold turkey due to our boss nagging on her, and she 'attempted' it on me as well falling behind needing 3 full time people, so will see how early 2025 goes on this time around????  More work, no more pay, much higher insurance premiums,  and a nagging boss, lack of employees, is over 3 strikes and I am out...  I told Alex, my faithful coworker, who we both started about 3 years ago together if he leaves, I will also leave soon after then they have NO ONE and be toast like my past employer who somehow is still in business after all 3 of us in our dept quit as well as our nagging supervisor soon left afterwards since half her dept. quit on her prior to her leaving whether it was mutual or they told her to leave or she found another job knowing she would be toast for allowing half her dept. to quit on her during covid.
