And probably won't until later in the week.  A heat index of 115 degrees has happened before, but I was younger then.

Rode the "Rat" bike today just a few miles.   She hadn't been out in a while and needed some fuel anyway, so I thought I'd take a ride for an hour or two.   Got to the gas station, broke a sweat just filling the tank.  Finished that and turned around and went home.   Got off the bike and walked in the back door and it felt like I was walking into a commercial walk in freezer.   The temp inside was set at 74 F.

Knowing there's always a silver lining to every situation, at least I'm not wearing out my long johns.  Wink

I just cannot ride in that kind of heat... add in full sun, and nope.

I have a couple nice shady rides, but it's an hour minimum to and from, nope.

I try to work outdoors nearly every day, these days it's mornings.

Yeah, I took the Solstice out today also with the top down to get fuel also.   Couldn't wait to be back inside.  The top is manual and all I was interested in do was parking it in the garage and getting out of the heat and humidity.

Yes John. I floated the notion about selling the bike because my bride can no longer ride and looking for a Ford Cobra. Well I found a Cobra in disguise. It’s an Austin Healey body over a full on Ford Cobra drive train. Pictures to follow

It’s a mustang Cobra modified 5L V-8 with a Holly Sniper 4 bbl FI and electronic ignition. A  Tramic 5 manual 5 Speed and a brand new 9” Ford rear end.  255 60’s in the back and 235 60’s in the front.

It’s a blast to drive when it’s not 100 degrees or pouring rain. The last two months we have had a couple hours of good driving weather. UG!!!!

For now it’s the Cobra bike and the Cobra car. Bike is still for sale but this car was so much less expensive than a Cobra I didn’t have to wait to sell the bike first.

Nice!   I can relate to the last sentence.   But to be honest, since InZane I haven't ridden much.   f6gal's kick to my knee hobbled me something terrible.

When I first saw the picture of the car I said to myself, "Thats an Austin Healey". After reading the information I see I was part right.  The outside is a Healey.  I had a 1963 Austin Healey 3000 sometime in the early 70's. It was all stock.  But still a fun ride.

Not many folks know what an Austin Healey is. I surely didn’t. But I’m thankful I found this one. It’s taken a bunch of work to get it right and there’s still a couple things to do but it’s so worth it

It's 98 out right now with a heat index of 105+. I quit riding in excessively hot weather a long time ago. Nothing to enjoy about it.

Left Monday at 4:00am to go north west from Wisconsin for 3 to 4 weeks camping.  Stop at Mankato MN at 2:00 pm to camp for night, 350 mile day. Upper 90s and very high humidity, could not drink water fast enough. Next day we were planning to head across South Dakota.  Middle of night I made the decision to pack up and take a route back by way of the lowest altitude areas I could find to return home. Arrived at home Tuesday morning by 9:30. Night ridding is something I have always tried to stay away from doing two up.

Killed one black cat and a coon. At 58 miles per hour slight bump. My wife said, what was that? I said, black cat used up it’s last life.

I did ride in the morning doing errands before 8am while it was only in the 80s.  After noon, the temps have been around 106-109 for the last few weeks so just waiting around for the heat dome to go torture some other part of the country before I go out for any extended times.

Tomball, Tx Accuweather todays prediction 107 degrees with feels like 115 degrees.  Put that with coastal high humidity and there WILL NOT be any riding today.  Last week we hit 108 degrees.   I tried to get my Valk out of the garage but every time I raised the roll up door the Valk would run over to the fartherest corner away from the door and hide under some boxes

By far not the only reason I haven't been on two or three wheels since InZane but, this is still applicable.

So after having heat and biblical rain at my (VA) house lately, I drove my truck up to visit my 93yo mom last week (south of Belleville MI on the Monroe county line).

The heat wasn't too bad, but you may have read about some biblical rain in MI a couple days ago.  It rained and thundered and lightninged all night (and a few tornadoes), and we got between 6 and 7 inches by morning.  Hundreds of thousands w/o power.  Nearly every home with lakes and roads swamped.

My brother ran a big pump to 2-inch hose and it pushed a geyser of water out of his 3 airplane hanger/machine shop water well nonstop for a day and a half (into some low lying woods).

And after being stung by yellow jackets multiple times this summer at my house,  they were unhappy with their in-ground homes getting flooded, so they stung me again at my brother's house.  tickedoff

Mom is doing remarkably well at 93, though she's wearing a cast on a left wrist break, and I detail cleaned her home from top to bottom, fixed a dozen things, and washed and waxed her truck.

Hey old woman, how about using that walker in the kitchen and making me some breakfast.   2funny

(I did all the shopping, cooking and dish-washing for the week; though she insisted on making two dinners)

Yesterday I rode the twelve miles to my blood letting appointment.  My cage had earlier reported 102 - 104.  My thermometer on the Valk was reporting close to 110 but I am sure that is not quite right.  I have previously told my friends that somewhere around 106 the air passing over me seems to heat me more than to cool.  I may need to revise that assessment.

I'm a motorcyclist but I don't normally ride out into the pouring rain.  Perhaps I should also add heat but I'm not quite there yet.  I'm sure such a decision would be more advanced were I to live in Corpus Cristi or Arizona but I don't.

You all do what seems right to you.   Wink

Right now, heat is not the problem with our area. Smoke is.  Really hate riding in smoke.  Had two days with Unhealthy air conditions.  Not so bad this morning but have rain on the way.  I did slip out yesterday for a 60 mile ride when the smoke went away for an hour or so.

After Idalia passed to the east of where I live, things cooled down.   Before, most days, the heat index was over 100.   Not today.  Temperature was 82 degrees, clear skies light breeze, so I took a ride to a BBQ place I like and picked up some BBQ for dinner.   Took the long way back.

Not really a long ride but, a ride on two wheels is a ride.

And I should have taken some pictures but.... I was more interested in riding.

Today's ride:  I was going to head to Saluda, SC (where I came of age) just to reminisce.  Our home is no loaner there (replaced by a subdivision) but I was going to try and spot the place.

But, I cut it short and just did a circle, sort of.  I took the videos off the "dash-cam" I have mounted on the wing (the bike I took for the ride today) and edited them for a front and rear view.  The link below is to the Youtube video.  You have to go in and manually select 1080p (at least I did).  Oh, just found out (remembered) that you have to do the same with the DropBox video link.

This is a link to the same video in DropBox.

From my post above

"Today's ride:  I was going to head to Saluda, SC (where I came of age) just to reminisce.  Our home is no loaner there (replaced by a subdivision) but I was going to try and spot the place.  "

On Labor Day, I took my ST1300 (Valkyrie is waiting on a new battery) back to Saluda, SC to see if I could find our old home, or at least the location.

I FOUND IT!!!!!   Or I found the real honest to gosh location.   Three tells.

One. Dad worked for International Paper Company.  I believe the house was theirs and we lived there as part of his compensation.  The building that stored the equipment for clearing and planting pine trees was still there.  Roof is very rusty but it's still there.  In the right place as I remember, about three miles out of town toward Greenwood.

Two other tells.   There was a family that lived sort of next door (well in the country a couple hundred yards is next door).  I would visit them, walking over the fields (not planted usually just grass) to their house.  His first name was same as mine, Jim.  Jim's wife's first name was Sally (well Sallie it appears).

Across the main road (US 178) was another family I visited (think they had children my age).  Remember them because I remember the day they finally got an indoor toilet.

I knew both of their last names.  So, I went to the Saldua County website and looked at the "parcel" information (forget what you really call it, tax maps..).  Anyway, verified the building was sold by a "firm" (probably after International Paper left the place).  Found that the owners of the two other houses I spotted were (in years past) the same last names I remember.

SUCCESS!!!!

Only bad news is, and it was sort of to be expected,  Both Sallie and Jim have passed in the last 10 or 15 years.   However, I have the memory.  Wonderful memories.   Oh, did I tell you I picked cotton one day in the field across from our house.  Made twenty five cents.  Grin Grin Grin

And no, I was not the only one.  Just the only one 12 or 13 years old.

Note:  I went looking online to see if I could find information about Jim and Sallie and found Sallie's obituary and the information about Jim, her husband and when he passed.

It was a good day for memories.
