Fifty years ago I exited the hatch below for the last time.  I spent six years in the United States Navy, the last three on the USS Patrick Henry, SSBN599 (Blue).

Would I do it again, darn right.   It was formative.  It was fun. it was, at times, a little scary.  But there is nothing better than being with 120 other sailors who always have your back.  And yes, the training I got prepared me for a career in commercial Nuclear Power.  Which was also very rewarding.

A picture from my last patrol as I was at the RPCP.

A friend I went to through school with served as a nuclear tec on the USS Flying Fish. You could ask him all kinds of questions. Never got any answers. The only thing he ever said was at times you needed to remember to start a sentence with “ with all do respect sir”.

Very funny, but true.   There are sea stories and there are sea stories.  Like in the picture, I had to "coverup" the changes that were made on the boat due the loss of the USS Scorpion.   Even though it is 50 years old.

I once told a lieutenant, "Sir, if you weren't my division officer, I'd tell you to kiss my a$$." He just walked away.

Thank your for your Service sir.  I was on the USS Wasp for a year or less.  But before that I use to watch a lot of TV shows about flight ops.   The ballet on the flight deck is really intriguing.  And fun to watch.

Well, as a former division officer - one the first things I learned is that even though I'm the officer in charge, - you should work WITH your enlisted sailors - especially the LCPO / LPO / work center supervisors.  CICO , USS McInerney (FFG8).
