We spent most of this week fixing the mower/ conditioner.  What a PIA!  But another field is cut, dry it tomorrow, bale and pick it up Sunday.
Been fixing equipment since I got back from InZane it seems…rode the Valk once, the VTX twice…sad lol
Glad Hondas never break down!

My other  neighbor  has  a  dead  cow  in his  field, and  I  can't  be  outside.
I told 'em about it..  That's  all I can do..
If  I could  dig a  hole  I wopuld  be  glad  too..
I will plee  to him tomorrow  about planting it ..

I wish he  would  dig a  hole.. It's  about a  football field  away from the  house .
I want to puke   each time  I go outside .. This  heat  is  really making  a  2000lbs  cow  stink !

Oh yeah ; A  cool little  story of  what happened  today.

The  other  day I was  saying to  myself , dang I really  need  to buy some tobacco .

Well I go get the  mail and  the  just on the  edge  of  the  driveway,

there is  a  crushed   brand new  pack of  cigarettes !

And  are  ya  ready  for  this ; they are  called  LD !

What are  the odds !

It's  obvious they are  for  me .

Now  I  know  ya'll are  saying why did  she  want tobacco ? She  doesn't smoke.

tobacco prayers, and  graves and  giving thanks.

SO I have  already  took them apart.

Tossed  the  papers /filter  and  just have  the  loose  tobacco in a  container  for  now.

I need  to make  more  tobacco prayers for  the  gates..

Sweet taters, leeks, are the  only root crops that will grow  in my clay.
Onions  & 'taters  will grow  but not get to nice  sizes.
That's  why I grow  the  'taters out of  the  dirt and  in hay.

I know it might be a tad off topic but, the soil around my house here in SC is mostly clay.  The only way I got real grass to grow was when we had to make a big "drain field" for the septic tank.  Now, there are some nice rows of green grass almost all summer long.

But, I am interested in making the clay more "friendly" in other areas.  Since the areas are small (less than an acre) I found information about "aeration" (which I can do) and then adding some mulch.

So, since you have lots of clay soil have found a "process" that will make the clay "go away"?

Bill, aeratae the clay soil (I used a rental, not going to buy one) (if you have a tractor they may make an aerator to pull behind one).

Then go get a truckload of decent topsoil somewhere.

Then go to Home Depot (or somewhere) and buy a few big bales of sphagnum peat moss.

Then mix up the topsoil and peat moss in the truck bed, drive it around the yard and throw shovels full where you want it.  Maybe use a garden rake to spread it more evenly.

Then use the aerator again over the top of the areas you amended with top and peat.

Then water it in gently several times.

Then after it sits for a while you can put down starter grass seed and water some more.

That will wear you out pretty good.   Grin

Your average mulch is shredded wood chips and pretty acidic and I wouldn't use it for a lawn.

My favorite lawn fertilizer is Milorganite (slow release nitrogen), its gentle and also great for amending soil.  But don't waste it if you will have to mow or rake leaves and suck it back up before it gets down in the ground.

Tracy those onion sets you gave me are doing just fine
Have em planted between rows of french filet bush beans

Thanks  cooldude
Almost all the garlic is now picked.  Dont remember if you planted garlic or if you like it?

The spaghetti squash, butternut squash and cherry tomato plants are over 7' tall now and tied to bamboo stakes my neighbor down the block gave me. He cuts em with a big machete. In return I gave him about 20 cherry tomato plants    He will, like me, be picking 200 a day soon, Stacy's kids eat em as fast as we pick em, Makes good sauce, Bonnie puts em into ice cube trays. Once frozen, then pop em out and into the freezer in a gallon zip lock they go. SO I just take a few cubes and add it to the spaghetti squash and the meat (yeah I know you dont do meat but I love my sloppy spaghetti meals with lots of veggies

Awesome  Evan...

Garlic  doesn't do well here.. To much clay.

Today I did  what is  known as Rebel canning.
I  ran a  canner  of  baby corn in jars.
You know the ones ya use in stirfrying.
I  hot packed  them and  in each pt jar added 1/2 tea pickling saltand  a  1/2 TB of  vinegar .
Not looking to pickle just a  mild  brine. Canned  for  1 h  @ 15 of  pressure
   I couldn't find  any true  recipe. Normally ya  do corn  for  55 m @ 15 lbs .
But I figures  an extra  5 wasn't  going to hurt.
That is  the  time  for  canning greens.. And  less  than canning  venison  that is  90 m @ 15lbs.

We  shall see  it's  just time  and  power...

Tomorrow I make  and  can Salsa  verde.
My tomatillos did  outstanding this  year .
As  did  my serrano peppers..
They did  so well I  made  Cowboy candy. 5  1/2  pt jars .
LOL I gave  2  away and  ate  one  already..
Boy howdy  that's really good.
Way easier  then my Hot pepper jam I  make.

Edit: The  corn looks  real pretty..

Or, how many people really know how to make soap.
