Hog Wings...
Since we were headed to Greybull, WY, for a truly great hamburger, we decided to make this entire outing a 'Burger Quest' or something like that. Actually, we struggled the entire time trying to think of a suitable, catchy name for this mission... Anyway, it seemed entirely appropriate for such a journey to get off to a good start, so Dovie's became our very first destination.
An interesting little out-of-the-way place in Tompkinsville, KY, discovered by Mitch & Laura and shared with several of us over the past year or so. 'Squeezed or Un-squeezed' is the question always posed during order-taking...
I'd always chosen 'Un' in order to get the full effect of those delightful grease bombs, but... Since we had many miles yet to cover that day, and I'm always fearful of an unannounced visit from Lucy, I took the safer 'Squeezed' option this time. My younger companions unhesitatingly went for the gusto, however, and boldly opted for the 'Full Monty'.
Dovie's... Just one of those extra special little gems you only occasionally stumble upon...

Chow time! (Not many patrons at 9:00am)

Even the 'squeezed' has plenty of that 'special sauce', only slightly less of it...

Lucy was nowhere to be found the whole way to Grayville, Il... I didn't miss her... We checked into a motel there and asked about eateries... Chappy's Steakhouse was highly recommended.
Chappy's...

We checked out the 'specials' and opted for the fried catfish... Why else might one go to a steakhouse? We'd already had a hamburger earlier in the day, so we gave ourselves a guilt-free waiver for a slight variation... It looked so good; too, I only had one picture taken before diving in!...

Mitch left us before sun-up the following morning. He had an 'appointment' in St. Louis, but we'd see him again that evening... Actually, he caught up with us before we stopped in Louisiana... Missouri! No fooling, the name of the town right on the Mississippi River just south of Hannibal is 'Louisiana'... We stayed at the River's Edge Motel... No hamburger available for dinner, though.
Next door to the motel is a small pub, and they did offer a couple of digestible items... 'Hog Wings' being the one we selected... I suppose if buffalos can have wings, why not hogs too? It was pork, flavored in my case with lemon & pepper, and 'mounted' on a bone that resembled a rib... Pretty tasty, though. We consumed a Yuengling or three in honor of Barbie, who could not make the trip with us.
Darker inside than outside!

Hung on the wall above the 'privy' was a sign most likely more prominently displayed at an earlier time...

On his phone AP one of my pals found an interesting looking hole-in-the-wall cafe in Louisiana for breakfast the next morning... Izola's Place...

Miss Izola herself... Sorry the first picture doesn't do her justice... A certifiable character for certain, though, and we had a very large time bantering with her and some of the regular local patrons...

We rode to Beatrice, NE, after Izola's, and settled into a room for the evening. Mitch went for brewskis, pizza was delivered, and we enjoyed both at an outside picnic table... No pictures were taken to protect the innocent...
All the way there, I'd been marveling at my good fortune to have such good friends. Not only were they good riders and wonderful traveling companions, but they were also just plain good people to boot! There have been plenty of times I've traveled with others and had to struggle to make myself stay with the group. This was definitely not one of those times!!!
