Two hundred forty-eight years ago a group of men gathered in a Philadelphia tavern to become the Continental Marines.  That group has distinguished themselves among fighting forces ever since.

Happy Birthday, United States Marine Corps.

Cheers to all present active and former inactive Marines!

This reminds me, I need to call my nephew.

I appreciate your humor, Reb, but that is a well spread misconception among sailors.  The Navy, the Marine Corps, and the Coast guard during times of war are all part of the Naval Department.  There is no subjection of any below the other.

It is good to serve alongside our Naval brothers when it is called for.  We have our strength.  Sailors have their strength.  I am especially fond of the SeaBees, but then they don't serve on floating vessels exclusively either.   Wink

Had to look it up.  The Navy's birthday appears to be October 13, 1775

Since it's going to be Christmas soon, this clip dedicated to the (in this case British) Navy always reminds me of those men and women far away from home with the right spirit, preserving the peace or strike hard if need be.
