Okay so I happened to find a cheap pair of stock exhaust that were properly sitting in someone's garage for 20 years, chrome looks like crap but thats not my concern since I really just want them for the headers since thats the most important part of an exhaust. I've been reading different truck stack threads and trying to decide what I want to do. Im going to keep my stock exhaust on my bike intact incase I hate the results. My thought was to gut the entire muffler and cut the pipes off after it and stick a truck stack over it, basically straight piping it. Is that crazy? All I really have to go on is YouTube clips and I absolutely love the sound these engines make.

I’ve got one that is exactly like that. Sounds awesome! Had robbed some of the power though compared to the stock pipes. It’s my local cruising bike, I certainly wouldn’t want to set off across the country on it though!

Good to hear! Yeah I'll be keeping the stock incase I do plan a long trip. Im having a tough time finding 4x36 stacks. Everyone one that comes up has a turn down at the end of it. Any ideas? Maybe I'm looking up the wrong key words. |

One of the Valks I acquired had an OEM exhaust that was "Ragnar" cut with truck stacks added.
It was cool for awhile, but the exhaust drone got to me and I started to pass on riding her.
I ended up putting 3 - 1"x12" perforated pipes together in each expansion chamber and a baffle in the truck stack end.
She now has a low grumble at low rpm, w/o the drone at mid rpm and sounds great, especially when twisting right wrist hard.
Turns lots of heads, as it's not a common sound out there. I always can recognize the gear heads, they stop and look.
I even had a kid in a baby carriage being pushed by mom, couldn't have been more than 2-3 years old, crain his neck around to see what was coming.

I highly recommend against it. It is basically drilling out the muffler. It is very irritating to ride behind one.

Thanks! I actually just ordered a pair of 4"x40" stainless truck stacks, if all goes well this little exhaust project will cost me just about $100. I know stainless wont look as good as chrome but it doesnt look all that bad, especially when most of the pipes is hidden under the bags. I fellow in the valk fb group actually responded with a photo of his bike with stainless stacks. You can get a set of stainless stacks for $50 but a set of chrome will cost you $250 right now. I agree with Rob, I wouldn't ruin a good set of OEM pipes with a Ragnar cut. I guess if their already junk, I might. |

I made these up, 5" truck stacks, 18" long, with the turnouts.
It didn't run great until Big Bill went through the carbs and re-jetted it. It runs and sounds pretty awesome.

I just cut the resonators out of my mufflers. The chrome was rusting and dinged on one side so I bought 4" x 30" (I think it was) truck stacks and slipped them on over.
My neighbor had a hot rod Malibu from the late '60's and was sitting behind it in his garage with his wife. I fired up my Valk and she asked him, "Did he get a hot rod, to?" and Phil told her, "No, that's his motorcycle..." She thought I had a Porsche of or something similar. It gave the bike low rumble without increasing the noise beyond tolerable levels.
I am considering putting a stock set back on mine. Getting old. A friend gave me his that have 600 miles on them. They are in storage in a "Two Brothers Racing" box that his 6 into six pipes came in.

My stock exhaust, piggie's were already cut and with stock tips, very annoying thus I a made some 12.5 straight slash cut tips, perfect mellow roar and no loss of power. When cutting the piggie's, leave a tad of metal of pipe sticking out in case of returning them to stock for welding. Marking position would help also.
