This person fails to mention the item and a PRIVATE shipping company????  No mention of price either.

Hello I'm Mark,
I am sending you this mail in respect of your wanted ad,I have the exact item you are requesting which is in cream and mint condition.
I can ship as I will be shipping via a private shipping company which I have been working with for years now.
If you are still interested in the item kindly shoot me a mail.

Thanks

There is absolutely no doubt about...this is a scam.  That became evident from simply reading the following phrase "in respect of your wanted ad"!!

I had a similar situation a few weeks back, when I listed my Corbin Touring seat in the classifieds. TWICE, I was contacted by someone who left a phone number to call. The person on the other end sounded normal and we agreed on price and shipping. Then, I got a follow-up email, explaining that I would receive an overdraft check for considerably more than I was asking. He supposedly was doing this, because he owned his own shipping company that would expedite the sale and pick-up of the saddle. I was to simply cash HIS check and, within 24 hours, send the difference to the "transport company."
This sounds tempting....if you are a moron! After the second similar contact, I just marked the seat as sold, to stop the nonsense and waste of my time. Maybe I'll turn it into a planter, or a work stool! Sigh.                                   Mike in New York

I just sold a set of Hondaline leather saddlebags that I had listed in the classifieds to a rider in Florida. Before I received his e-mail I had received 5 other e-mails that were obviously scammers. How did I know? The same odd wording of course but none of those 5 asked for additional pictures that I had offered to e-mail interested parties. Now who is going to want to buy used leather saddlebags without pics? I just opened them and deleted them.

The scammers are getting bad in our classified section. I've notice some members starting to slip items for sale/wanted in regular posts to get away from the B.S. Which is against posting rules, but I can see why they are. Who knows what the answer is uglystupid2

Unfortunately, this is a common scam.  I had that happen to one of my ebay auctions where the creep did a "Buy It Now" which closes the auction and makes me relist the item - - wasting my time as well as the legitimate bidders.  Usually payment is a draft from a offshore bank.

BUYER (SELLER) BEWARE!!

Nope.  Anyone can read the Classifieds.  Only members may post to the classifieds.

That is, incidentally, true of the message boards as well.

Always watch the wording.  When they say "the item", it's usually a good indicator that it's spam and they don't know what the heck the "item" even is.

Hey, Smokin' Joe, (reply #7)
I tried sendin you some pics of the seat that was repeatedly tied up with scammers, but my e-mail and attached photos were unable to go through using the info I got from the icon on this site. I must be doing something wrong, so, if you see this, let me know how best to get those pics and info to you.        Mike in N.Y.
