when the Toys for Tots Ride comes up. Half the time I don’t partake. But it’s been a while since I’ve been riding, and it is a good cause. They usually get a large group riding. But many of the riders are inexperienced, and you can’t really do much about those near your group. Maybe nervousness is a good thing to give an extra layer of protection. It can never hurt to be more vigilant. Wish me luck.  Smiley

I used to do those rides, until one year the wife had surgery, and I was going to the pharmacy to get her Rx pain killers, as she was howling in pain.

I was in the cage, got stuck at a light trying to get to the pharmacy as 30 minutes of bikes went by on a toy ride.

I quit doing toy rides after that, just drop some toys in the Marines Toys for Tots box or kick a few bucks to them directly - https://www.toysfortots.org/

Not judging anyone who wants to do a toy ride, I just felt after that it's giving the public a very bad taste in their mouth about riders, not to mention all the inexperienced (And sometimes drunk) idiots those types of rides attract...

I got the same opportunity myself. I looked around and I was only one of many unhappy campers. I refuse to be part of that kind of group. I do occasionally ride in groups but we follow traffic rules. Cops stopping traffic flow for them doesn't change my opinion.

I had my fill of riding with rookies (especially in groups/crowds) (and ancient bikes) years ago.

I do it no more.

I survived the ride. It was great to get out with some of my old riding buddies.  cooldude

Rob,

I share your nervousness at such things, my friend! Like you, I haven't totally closed the door on that, but I am nearly always absent when groups ride out... Those sorts of rides just aren't my cup of tea anymore, but the social aspects are often worth the risk... just as you indicated. Now a ride with a friend or two... like one with you for instance... that's a whole 'nuther kettle of fish!!! Glad it all worked out for ya...

Hey Rob, glad to see you're still twisting a wrist  cooldude

Last group ride I did, my CT picked up a metal object from the road, carried it up into the inner fender and sliced a cut in the sidewall.

I still blame  tickedoff one of the HD's in front of me of dropping a part, though no one claimed they did.  Probably didn't know. Smiley

Not going on those kind of rides any longer.

It felt pretty good. Seems my life has become full of doctors, hospitals, service providers, and insurance companies. It was good to ride. I usually ride enough that I never get that “rusty” feeling. I did yesterday for a bit. I tend to forget how important riding is to me when I haven’t been out for a while. Makes me wonder how non riders go thru life.

Merry Christmas to all !

I am humbled. My plight is minuscule compared to what you’ve been thru recently. I am glad you’ve made some progress as of late.  cooldude
