Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Sometimes It All Goes Right…. Mostly…

Well, ain't that sumthin'? I no sooner posted my last piece proclaiming, among other things, that I wasn't going to order anything else online for the time being... Then I did anyway... I was on a roll, you see, and I just couldn't help myself. I ordered from Sam's place that ‘just right’ bag I'd been unable to find at Tractor Supply, Dollar General, or a couple of truck stops.

I figured what the hey, 'In for a penny, in for a pound...' So, the new delivery date for that last really needed item, a suitable bag, miraculously fell within my hoped-for time window, so... I went for it. That bag appears to be exactly like the one I just lost, too! BINGO! No time penalty and no stopping and shopping necessary either. I wasn't totally off the hook, however...

During all of this, I was notified it was time to refill my prescriptions... and there's no Walgreens in this town... Back to the net to GTS for a solution, where it was learned there are several in Beaumont about 30 miles away. I'd flipped a coin long ago and selected Walgreens from among those with a national footprint, so... I'm going to have my needs fulfilled over there... Hopefully, I can safely and easily find that pharmacy!

I'm also going to set pick-up arrangements for Sunday morning if I can, in hopes of missing as much traffic as possible... The weather is also forecasted to be quite pleasant that day, as well. I tried to call them that morning to set things up, but... I 'timed out' on hold. Not a good omen at all; but I wasn’t about to give up yet. My fingers were firmly crossed, though...

Good and not-so-good fortune appear to continue falling upon this absent-minded, sometimes a bit careless risk taker, but you'll definitely hear no complaints from this source! Misfortune seems always to be accompanied by blessings in equal or greater measure... If ‘good fortune’ is a finite entity, then I surely must be nearing the end of my allotment! If not, then I am indeed doubly blessed for certain...

Maybe there actually is something to a Shiner Bock connection... I don't know about that, but to be on the safe side I did bring that possibility into play. They were as good as I remember, as cold as they needed to be, and they were accompanied by something fried to eat while enjoying them... Life can be sooooo good!!!

So, there I sat... shopping and recording events as they unfolded... All the while as a light rain fell outside (that later turned into a downpour). Modernity and accompanying technological advances have challenged us in so many ways. They have certainly confounded, confused, and bewildered this non-techy at every turn.

I know I was frightfully intimidated when a computer first entered my world, and there has been little relief from that since. I have at the same time become addicted to the promise of technology, and especially to the advantages I have managed to discover... And there have been many...

Traveling widely aboard our girl but shopping from inside a cozy motel room, then awaiting delivery to the room door while it's downright nasty outside is clearly one of those grand benefits to be had...The social contact I'm able to maintain with family and so many of my friends is another...

I'm often asked about loneliness that comes with my lifestyle... I do recognize there are times, but... They are few and far between. In my particular case, this electronic connection along with cell phones alone seem quite adequate to fill any gaps encountered so far by this mostly solitary rider... Plus, continually meeting strangers in person is perhaps one of the best of all features of this lifestyle. Yep, it’s definitely turning out to be another “12” thing all the way around!!!

UPDATE:

The new chaps, shoes, and bag have all arrived! The chaps and bag are identical to the ones lost, so other than their newness, no change at all there. The shoes, however, are different, but quite adequate for my needs, so again all set there as well. The shoes and chaps also fit just right, so, we're poised for a timely departure from Winnie and a resumption of usual as of yet unknown activities... Well, almost...

There was a little hic-up regarding prescription refills. The pharmacy in Beaumont informed me I'd be receiving three of the four drugs I wanted to pick up. WHAT?! I called my doctor's office and informed them... then began the wait for confirmation of correction... That came the following morning. All set for a Sunday morning pick-up... And it worked out just that way after all! Great day to ride also! So, we finally have all the question marks removed from the chain reaction of unplanned steps set in motion by one teensy little oversight in cargo securing... The devil truly is in the details, huh...?

John,

Thanks a bunch! It does amaze me how things always work themselves out... regardless of lots or no handwringing... that never affects the outcome! I appreciate your always positive and complimentary replies!!!

Jim,

Thank you, too!   cooldude

Gene,

I just love all those 'silver linings'! We'll be heading out in the morning for the next big adventure... I'm not sure at the moment where that might be or even in which direction we'll be headed. As you well know, however, the details are less important than simply being out here and cruising around... I love to just get moblie, then allow adventure to find me!!! Thanks for commenting and adding the perspective of a well seasoned adventurer...

Bruce,
Good read... I'm glad it all worked out and back to "normal". That's a good place to be no matter where you find it.

Bill,

Thank you, my friend! I do enjoy your compliments!!!   blush  You're welcome, by the way, it's mighty nice to 'have you along'... Stay tuned, I ain't done yet!!!

Ross,

Yeah, 'normal' is a doggone good place to be... wherever that is!  coolsmiley Heck, I've even had to call my friend/expert helpful guys (Dennis and Mitch) for a talk-through with some trouble-shooting this morning... It all worked out fine, as it always does, and we were back on the road by 9:30am today... We're in Del Rio, TX, tonight, then... westward... I think... Oh, and your compliments are always most welcome indeed!!!   Smiley

DDT (12)

Ron,

Always a pleasure to share some wind with you... even if only in spirit... Soon, I hope, we'll be able to adjust that to 'in person'...   cooldude

DDT (12)

Joe,

I'm not sure about the tower. There is a very high tower south of Winnie that I've ridden by many times, but I don't recall any sign, and I also don't recall anybody besides you ever mentioning it. Anyhow, I think I have, as recently as last Tuesday... Thanks for the positive comments about my posts... They are very much appreciated! BTW, about time for you to join me out here someplace, isn't it?   Roll Eyes

DDT (12)

Ross,

Yet another piece of sound advice and a thoughtful suggestion... I've been meaning to ask you... Does all that wisdom implied in those hint at perhaps experience being at the origin of them?   crazy2  Whatever the source, you've offered some dandies and many of us will use them...
