Hydro power came back on mid afternoon today. No more generator background noise...No more waiting for someone to value our generator more than they value their life....Life is back to somewhat normal around here...

Although it felt like 53 hours ours was off for 8 hours. The genny was running low on fuel so I went to another town for more. The power came back as I pulled in the drive way. Tons of small branches.. and some not so small litter my yard. Picking them up is pain.

Anyone know why there is an exorbinate amount of pine cones this year?

Lot of trees down across power lines here Ron. Crews had to run new lines from pole to pole..
As far as lots of pine cones...Around here it is because I have shot all squirrels and chipmunks...

Wow Terry!   Shocked  Glad life is back to normal. Our power went out for a few minutes on Monday, but thankfully came back as we don't have a generator.

I don't know why, but we've got a ton of them, too. I was out yesterday afternoon cleaning up. Lots of small branches and sticks down around the yard.

The sump pump is running a lot. Over the last two weeks we've had about 7 inches of rain in my area.

Grateful nobody valued our generator more than they valued their lives...I had a 12 ga. loaded with buckshot right beside the dining room table, just in case !!

We have a portable generator that will run everything in our house...heat pump, pellet stove, well pump, freezer, fridgerator, microwave, toaster oven, washer, dryer, water heater, etc.....No sump pump as we are on a crest of hill...

A good friend of mine is an electrician and works for himself...He and I ran the cable from outside into and through basement to circuit breaker panel, and installed safety switch..Hadn't used it since it was installed..3 years ago...

We were camping with a generator for a couple days....

Relative to a potential theft threat for your generator, looks like you live in a nice area and from what you've said, have good relationships with your neighbors. But what the hell do I know?  crazy2

The edge of our back yard is elevated with rip-rap above a wetland and an adjacent pond. So we've got a high water table. We definitely would have water in the basement w/o the sump pump. We found that out the hard way many years ago.  Wink

We have great neighbors Tony, it's the riff-raff traveling through the 2 mile road that's the problem.
Construction / job trailers have been broken into, shops and garages also...
Night time pirates are roaming out there....I sleep with one eye open every night, and can get to a gun before the pirate can dial 9-1-1...

Here's a couple ideas Chris....

1)...Borrow a neighbor's goats and let them roam around eating all the down limbs and spruce / pine cones.
You will need to keep an eye on them, so they won't start eating the posts to your deck...

2)...I hear Bernie is on school vacation for a week or more. Betsy would be more than happy to boot him out for a couple days....She may even cover his food bill !!

That last storm did a lot more damage than most realize...Not sure if everyone is hooked back up with hydro power or not, haven't caught the news update on this.
