So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: December 27, 2023, 05:38:25 AM »

I ride New Year's Day every year (Weather Permitting).   When I say weather permitting, that means it's got to be really nasty or unsafe on the roads.   If my memory serves me correctly, I've only missed 4 New Year's Day rides in the last 19 years.  Some things ya just can't help, the weather is one of those.

That would be one of those Wx conditions I was talking about.

I'm one of those who don't or won't ride in the rain unless I absolutely have to.   New Year's Day is the one day rain won't stop me but, that stuff in your picture would cancel any plans absolutely.   2funny

And that my friend is the main reason I don't live where it does that. Cheesy

I was once on a group ride in the mountains.

We stopped for coffee, and while we watched, it snowed it's ass off.

First time I ever had to brush snow off the bike.

The ride down the mountains was funny and slippery and nasty, and it would be OK if I never rode in 5 inches of snow again.   (We finally got behind a big dually dump truck, and rode in his muddy tire tracks)

I have an opportunity for a New Year’s Day ride down to Powell Tennessee where some Goldwing riders are gathering for lunch. I have not committed for that one. In case anyone is wondering Wingers are crazier than this group.

Up and at it at 0500, checked the weather.   The Wx will be decent for my annual New Year's Day Ride.   Just waiting on the sun to come up and warm things up a bit.    Decided I need to ride all three Valks today since there's always some cooler Wx coming and I don't like the bikes to sit more than a week without running some fuel through those carbs.

So, once the atmosphere warms a bit, I'll mount up and do what comes so naturally.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has a great New Years Day ride! My bike will stay covered up in the basement. I wound up in Convenient Care Saturday morning. I’ve been fighting a head cold from hell since Christmas. Anyway an honorable mention has to go out SmokinJoe and his crew who left out on Wednesday is less than favorable conditions for the Florida Panhandle. I think he is probably back home by now as they were watching the weather reports for the best opportunity for the return trip, and was in Georgia the last time I checked.

Does it count if Judy and I take a drive down to the beach in this instead of the bike. I did ride the bike to the “end of the year” ride in Stockton AL on Saturday  Cheesy

At the present time the fog is making visibility less than .5 mile and temps below freezing.  Not a good time to think about a ride.  Well, maybe thinking about it.  Everyone ride safe.

That works for me, if such a ride makes you and the wife happy, then I'm happy for you.

The sad part is even if the weather is ok to ride here in the Republic of IL. the DOT sprays salt brine on bridges and shaded road ways. That means a complete wash job including undercarriage. Inner fenders and behind covers.

Took the Valk out for about 20 miles. Came home and took my other bike ( Honda ST1100) out for about 5 mile run. Kinda cool (for Florida).

Rode all three Valks today about 30 miles each.   Just enough to keep those carbs clean and my soul refreshed.  Wink

I rode my Valk a bit New Year's Eve in the mid 60's but New Year's Day was bright and sunny, and in the lower 40's so I wussed out on that one...

IT was foggy all day yesterday, like a quarter mile visibility foggy.  Now we have snow on the way.  No riding till maybe next week.   tickedoff
