Hello all.  I recently took in a 2001 valkyrie trike that's only got 8750 miles on it.  I've never worked on one specifically but I have 40 years working on motorcycles and was the service manager at a dealer that sold BMW...KTM...Triumph... and Indian.
Upon teardown...I discovered someone had been in the carbs before... there was parts missing...rtv sealant on everything... and even some jb weld. I'm completely amazed the bike ran at all.  Not seeing many options...I ordered the$25 rebuild kit from Amazon and continued disassembly... to find that someone broke the tips of the pilot screws( a few but not all) off in the carb bodies.  Ugh.  So i have a few questions...
(1) what's the best rebuild kit available? I went on the redeye sight and his kit is not available.
(2) has anyone dealt with having the tips of the pilot screws broken off in the carb casting? Any known methods to getting them out?
(3) any other words of advice?

I did order new intake runner o rings as well as a kit to replace the airbox runners that are 23 years old and dry rotting and leaking...
Thanks in advance!!

If you are on FB send a message to David Wilder or Jarod Hinkle they are Valkyrie carb gurus. Also Bob Smith does carbs.

""to find that someone broke the tips of the pilot screws( a few but not all) off in the carb bodies.""

your best option is buy a used carb set off ebay. very hard if not impossible to remove the broken tips, of course it would depend how hard those screws were turned before the tips broke off. Sometimes they can be removed.
Basically those carb bodies are paper weights now.

another set of carbs will be your easiest option.

I have to agree with 98valk.    If someone was that bad with the carbs, they're likely messed up in other ways too.
Maybe someone here is parting-out a Valk, and could sell you theirs.  Funny how I hardly ever hear about anyone doing that (parting out a bike.)    Maybe it's against the rules here, but I don't know.
Carbs are one of the most common causes of non-running Valks, but if you start out with an undamaged set, they are rebuildable.   Watch out for those aged diaphragms...

+1 for Jared Hinkle & David Wilder, if they can't fix it, it's not fixable.
They are also good to call and discuss options with.
I haven't run into what you describe myself, but I'm sure they will have.

I talked to Redeye.  We'll have the carb kit back available soon.
